Come take a gander at my school [and yet more of it's flaws]
“Welcome to Horsforth, you shall be categorised into Emo or Chav”
If you think of the number of labels in the world, at my school, they only really think of 2. I guess people use more, but those 2 are the main ones. You’re judged on a number of things, all of which make no sense. This blog I not on my opinions, it’s on the general opinions of my school, so please don’t comment saying “Blah is not an emo band” or “not all chavs wear Burberry”.
Emo
Bands: Any sort of rock band -_-
Dress Code: As long as the person likes black who cares, badges prove the point
Attitude: Not important but tend to be smart
Chav
Bands: R ‘n’ B ones basically,
Dress Code: Girls: Sluts, ‘bling’ Guys: Tracksuits, baseball hats, ‘bling’ both wear Burberry
Attitude: Smokers and idiots
There are a few other labels that float around e.g. / Spoff [Smart Person]. The main problem is you can not escape the labelling. It’s not just a few people, even my so called friends label me, yet I don’t label them.
Labelling is judging people on the way they dress, act or are. It’s one step away from racism. Think about it, Racism is judging people by their skin colour and being prejudice. Labelling is usually judging people on how they dress and being prejudice.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. x

I cant be labelled as emo. Well, technically i can, but stereotypically, no. I dont listen to any stereotipical bands, except for MCR, which i know isnt emo. I dont dress the stereotypical emo, and i dont even wear my hair to the stereotypical likings. Its quite funny to see people try stereotype me, because they cant do it!

I have no problem with labels, a language is a system of lables. What I do have a problem with is people discriminating against people because of them. Like if a girl gets labeled as a chav, she's automatically a sl*t. And if someone calls a kid emo he's on drugs. It's just senseless.

If you wear all-black clothes, studded belts and whatever, of course you are going to be labeled as goth or emo. If you like metal bands and you dress that way and then you have a problem with people labeling you then its your own fault. You could just wear a normal shirt and jeans and nobody would even notice. At first I was against labeling, I hated it. But then I thought about it... I wear pins that show what music I am into. I wear Chucks and Doc Martens. I wear unusual clothes. Why? Cause I want to be looked at on the street, cause I don't want people that see me on the street to think that I like pop. I want to be labeled and I dress that way. But I am against prejudices that come with that labeling. My friend is a chav, if you want, and she thinks I am punk. She thought that the first time she saw me. But she didn't think I was a drunk, stoned, dumb person. Thats what I appreciate. I don't yell into peoples faces, hey I'm punk, hey I'm ska, but I want them from my look to realize that I do listen to something similar.

Alot of people from my primary school also label me. I've mostly been called "emo".
Yes, it is similar to racism.
Apparently if you're black you have a f*cked up life, apparently if you wear a lot of black you're a goth.

labelling is pointless...most people make others their scapegoats so they can feel better...

Yeah another awesome blog :D
We have the same though instead of Emo, its Mosher. *rolls eyes*
But yeah, our school is the same. Automatically sterotyped.
And it sucks. I totally agree about the prejudice and racism thing. Good Point.
