I don’t resent my parents for curfews…

My friend today was complaining of a curfew of 9.00pm, because it was both a school night, and she has exams coming up. She said [and I quote]: “I hate my parents! They never let me do ANYTHING!”.

That made me think about my curfew. I don’t have one; just we have an understanding where I’ll be home in time for dinner, and sometimes they say I can’t go out. But I don’t hate them, I mean, yes I would love to be out with my friends for ages, but also I know how unsafe Horsforth can be.

There’s one gang, well there are loads of little ones, but these guys are terrible: “Hawkies” they come from the “Hawksworth estate”. It’s run down and no one cares much for it. These guys are terrible. Most of the time they don’t come near my side of town, but on occasion they do, frequently getting arrested.

Now my parents don’t like me going out when it’s dark. And I see why. I’ve seen the stuff they do, and my mum had a horrible experience where I man chased her in the park one night. Even I had one where this guy followed me, only going when my dog barked at him. Also someone was date raped in the park, and someone else was beaten up and left for dead.

I know the world is sometimes a dangerous place, and I understand my parents’ reasons for a curfew. It doesn’t make me resent them; it just shows they care about me. Sometimes they do annoy me, but I’ll get over that. My annoyance is better than their worry.
