Pros and cons of being a drummer.
Everything has good and bads sides to it.
So, yeah I've decided to write a blog on the good and bad things about being a drummer. I know I'm probably going to look (sound?) like a fool, because this is my first blog entry, but I'm going to try my best.
And I'm not attempting to be super-serious or anything. I mostly just wrote this because I had the idea, and thought it would be fun to think up all the good (and bad) things about being a drummer. It's all an opinion, too. So with that, let's start.
Some Good Things About Being A Drummer:
1.Admit it; drummers are always the coolest members of the band. Maybe not the smartest, or the most talented, but forever the coolest. Admit it.
2.You get to sit down AND rock out at the same time.
3.You get to make an awesome noise, just by hitting something really hard.
4.As you learn, you can create techniques and experiment. You don’t have to stick to strict guidelines, or any kind of guidelines, really.
5.You get really strong from all that banging!
6.Sometimes, the drummers get their own little stage. How cool is that?
7.Drummers usually get to sit in the middle of the stage.
8.There are so many different drums and cymbals to pick from! You can spend forever experimenting with new sounds and trying out awesome new things.
Some Not-So-Good Things About Being A Drummer:
1.Drummers are usually considered dumb. Even if it’s not true, people tend to think drummers will be the stupidest person in the band.
2.You have to sit down. I know this was listed as a good thing, too, but it can also be bad, because you can’t get up and jump around and dance and be crazy. You CAN play the drums standing up, but even then, there’s not much else you can do.
3.Some people consider drums not to be a real instrument, or not important. But every band needs a beat.
4.You mostly have to just play the same thing over and over. It can sometimes get boring just playing the beat.
5.You have to sit in the back, behind all the other musicians on stage.
6.You can’t just sit down at your drums and start playing and singing along to a song.
7.You can’t write songs on the drums.
8.So many different drums and cymbals to pick from. Another thing that’s listed twice, but this, too, can have it’s downside as it’s very expensive to buy all the different pieces you want, and there’s lots of drums to tune often.
That’s pretty much all I can think of right now. Again, these are all just opinions. I hope I did an okay job!

I have to disagree with all the cons. Maybe they are true most of the time, but there are also many occasion when they are all not true.
Check out the Violent Femmes in concert. You may not like them, but their drummer is rad and unlike most bands, all three musicians perform in one straight line so that no one is behind another or unnoticed.
He also performs standing up.

What I meant, Kurtni, when I said that 'You can't just sit down at your drums and start playing and singing along to a song', was that it's hard to sing to the drums. You can't do it the same way you can with piano or guitar.
I'm a drummer, too, by the way, but I'm just getting started.
Thank you for the comments, people!

I dont' think I'll ever be a good drummer. My coordination is horrible and the most I could control at the same time was the bass and snare.

I'm a drummer.
Haha, I thought this was fun to read. It made me think xD
There may be pros and cons to being a drummer, but for the most part it's really fun. =)

1.Drummers are usually considered dumb. Even if it’s not true, people tend to think drummers will be the stupidest person in the band.
Im a drummer.
I agree with you, people typically think that, and its sad because its not true.
2.You have to sit down. I know this was listed as a good thing, too, but it can also be bad, because you can’t get up and jump around and dance and be crazy. You CAN play the drums standing up, but even then, there’s not much else you can do.
Oh, you can still be krazzie on the drums. Case in Point; watch Tre in bullet in a bible XD
3.Some people consider drums not to be a real instrument, or not important. But every band needs a beat.
And the people who think that are the people who couldnt play drums =]
4.You mostly have to just play the same thing over and over. It can sometimes get boring just playing the beat.
Thats only true if you're a bad drummer. A good drummer does more than just a beat.
5.You have to sit in the back, behind all the other musicians on stage.
meh, I dont think thats so bad..unless you wanted spotlight or something,
6.You can’t just sit down at your drums and start playing and singing along to a song.
why not?
7.You can’t write songs on the drums.
...yes you can
8.So many different drums and cymbals to pick from. Another thing that’s listed twice, but this, too, can have it’s downside as it’s very expensive to buy all the different pieces you want, and there’s lots of drums to tune often.
same is true with any instrument.

Also, drummers are usually the least noticed members of the band.
