The global warming
Some choose to turn their backs on this; they choose to not believe that the global warming is actually happening.
What the media claims is true. The earth is getting warmer, and if we don't do anything to block this, we will suffer catastrophic consequences.
I see why people disagree though. It's scary. We're all scared of it. But we can only solve this together. One can't do everything - but we can all do something!
And the global warming is not about scaring people, it's about saving people. We can save us all. If we all try.
The global warming is caused by carbon dioxide, methane and other gases warming the planet by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. By burning fuels such as gas, oil and coal and cleaning forests, we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This affects the temperature all around the world.
Because of the global warming, the amounts of hurricanes of category 4 and 5 increases, glaciers melt and diseases spread easier. I'm sure that many of us on GSB are from Europe, and the global warming disasters has not yet reached European countries, so we might see no reason to take action. You might even think that we should just welcome it with open arms, because it will bring us a hotter climate. It won't. Europe will get as cold as Antarctica.
This is because of the melting glaciers of Greenland and the North Pole. It's reckoned that in 2050, the Arctic Ocean will be completely free from ice. The water from it will stream down the Atlantic Ocean and flood northern Europe, parts of America and as the South Pole melts, an area of India where 40 million people live will also be flooded. Sea levels around the world could rise by more than 20 feet.
The Gulf Stream will switch direction, and leave Europe to freeze.
Thinking that America will have a nice and cosy warmth? No.
There will be draughts, intensive heat waves and wildfires.
The deaths from global warming will more than double in 25 years - to 300 000 people a year.
It's been proved that the global warming exists, is happening right now, and it will detoriorate and eventually ruin our world. Let's work together to solve the problems!
What can you do to help?
Food
Avoid heavily packaged and freezed products, both of the alternates require a lot of energy.
Buy locally grown vegetables if possible (it's good to support farmer markets), meat from your country, bread from a local baker etc. You could also bake more at home.
Even if organic products are more expensive than regular food, I'd suggest you to buy organic. It both saves environment, and it's ethically correct for the rights of mankind.
Eat less meat. The transports are often painful for the animals who also meet a death that's lacking of dignity. Also, there are a lot of unnecessary transports, for example animals sent from Sweden to the Netherlands where they're slaughtered and then sent back to Sweden again.
Also, a lot of rainforest areas are devastated to become pasture land for animals.
Transport
Don't go by car unless you have to. Walking or biking are obviously the ultimate alternates, but I know that there are cities where you just can't without being run over. Then instead chose public transport, such as trains or buses. Also avoid flying. According to recent investigations, the okay amount of flights per person would be every 15th year.
Sharing a ride with a friend to school or work is very helpful to earth. Start a car pool!
Get your car to service often, if it's working correctly it will not use as much fuel.
Electricity, household etc.
Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use 60 % less energy than a regular light bulb.
Switch off the light when you leave the room, and make sure no lamp is still on when you've gone to bed.
Lower the temperature of your house 2 degrees celsius in winter and put it up 2 degrees in summer. Most of the energy in average households is used for warming and cooling, but by reducing it you can save tons of carbon dioxide!
Use less hot water. Rather take a quick shower than a long bath.
To save even more water, only run your dishwasher when there's a full load, or dish by hand.
Use a clothesline instead of a dryer.
Never keep your fridge open for too long! You can install alarms that count how long it's been open, and starts making noise when it's time to close it.
When you're done watching TV, using the computer or so on, unplug them from the wall. Don't just put them on standby. Cellphone battery chargers are extreme thieves! When your phone is charged, also unplug the battery charger from the wall.
Clean air filters for air conditioners and fans often. Believe it or not, it can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
Recycling
Sort your garbage! That improves the situation greatly. Recycle all materials possible.
Also buy as many recycled paper products as possible. It prevents the loss of forests worldwide and doesn't require as much energy to produce as brand new paper.
Plant a tree. A single tree can absorb one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
Remember; if you follow these tips, you save lives. You might save your own life, you might save others' life, you save the animals and you save earth.
If we work together, we can save existance. Please take action, and do anything you can.

I was waiting for someone to write a blog on this!
I never did, because I always got stuck on what to write.
Nice blog! (:
I shall help!

The main problem isn't us - the population. It's the governments. And how they're only focusing on money.
and a lot of big companies follow them which is just not right. They should have a bigger responsibility.
I see what you mean though. But everyone can do something.

Not all of these things is good when people don't have a lot of money. Stopping global warming will be like trying to overtake the world.

I really enjoyed this blog. I have a tip. Start using power strips so you can turn several appilances at once just by switching a button.
