Elliot Minor: The Members
Okay, in the past I have written band reviews, but I wanted to write one that mostly focused on the members…

In age order, let me introduce you to them…
Ed Minton
Born on the 10th September 1986, he is the eldest member of the band, in Tokyo, Japan, to parents Tim and Yoko. He has two sisters; Emily [20 months older] and Claire [18 months younger]. With black hair and brown eyes and no piercings or tattoos, he appears more innocent than anything else. Starting with guitar at 14, 6 years after starting his English education, he improved and learnt at an amazing rate, playing such songs as Green Day. Education in England began at ‘St John’s College’ in Cambridge, where he ultimately became head chorister. In 2005 he left Uppingham School to take a gap year, where studies became focused on the music. His favourite food is sushi, he loves the number 8, the colour bluey green and loves birds, as well as the letter ‘M’.
Alex Davies
Often described as the creative control behind the band, he was born on the 26th October 1986 in Stockport. Natural hair was dark brown, but it has been dyed many times, currently residing at a black, while living in York, with his dog Molly. All his life, Alex has been musically talented. At a young age he started learning such instruments as the piano and violin, developing his vocal talents as a choir boy at York Minister Choir School. Listening to mostly classical musical, he dreamt of being a classical violinist until Ed showed him into rock. ”Give Or Take” was a small 2003, 4 piece rock band that soon broke up, before the acoustic duo of Alex and Ed, that led onto ‘The Academy’. Alex quit his music course at Leeds University, building ‘Mavehole Studios’ a small recording studio within his house.
Teddy Hetherton
The eldest Hetherton brother, born on January 4th 1987. Born in York with both brown eyes and brown hair and eventually growing to a height of 6ft, becoming Bass player for Elliot Minor. He attended York Minister Choir School with his brother, Alex and Ali. With two dogs, Lara and Betty, he lives an active life with swimming, skiing and clay pigeon shooting all falling under the category of his hobbies. His main bass is an Ibanez ATK-500. An average bedtime of 3am, he hates lectures, but put up with them to originally follow his dream of becoming an Engineer, although that soon changed! Loving the eyes of a partner, he also loves his own, preferably eating Chinese food and knocking back a can or two of Stella. He wants to get married and have kids. Teddy is scared of ‘man-bear-pigs’.
Ali Paul
Alistair Andrew Paul was born on the 5th Febuary 1987. Currently living in York at a height of 5ft 10, he has an older brother [23 years], a younger sister [12 years] and a younger half brother [1], as well as a sausage dog called Mylo. He got into the band in 2005, when Teddy also joined. Knowing Alex, Teddy and Dan from school, they separated, with Ali studying in London [music & psychology]. One day an email was sent from Alex, asking if Ali wanted to play keyboard for a new band called ‘The Academy’, with music sheets attatched. 6 months after joining, things were moving along, so he quit University, and let the band become his life. He’s been playing the piano since he was about 7 but music has been a part of his life since birth.
Dan Hetherton
Almost two years younger than everyone else, Dan was born on the 8th August 1988, the second eldest of 6 children. 1 inch taller than Teddy, he has blue eyes, blonde hair and a generally sweet look. Born in York, he shares his brother’s love of Chinese food but prefers the taste of Strongbow and Ribena. He’s the joker, currently on a gap year, which will become a permanent event as he takes off as the drummer of this amazing band. Not liking television or books, he enjoys such films as Bambi. When asked, he summed up his interests in these 5 things: Music, Recording, Drums, Chinese food, Movies. Easily bored, he finds amusement in scaring Ed, doing pranks and generally causing the nuisance that we all love him for. Also, he believes in the importance of band candles; candles which mean the band will be on good form.
The Academy
Originally Alex and Ed recruited Dan, pulling in bassist Mike as well. Mike wasn’t successful within the band and was shortly replaced with Teddy [and Ali.], only using the name still as a temporarily thing.

“In a few short months the band was signed to Repossession Records, a new label founded by former MCA Vice President and Head of A&R Gary Ashley, who is credited with signing and developing legendary acts including Kylie Minogue, Blink-182, Shaggy, New Found Glory, Something Corporate, Aqua and Sublime among others.
In November 2006, they flew out to Los Angeles to record the first single with producer Jim Wirt (Hoobastank, Incubus, Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin) in Los Angeles, California. After hearing the track, Neal Avron (Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy) offered to mix the record and, of course, the boys accepted.”
