You're getting too into this, seriously. Holy sh*t, chill out!
I posted this because my last blog, which I deleted, had "f*cking" in the title. Slappy reminded me of the rules, but I just felt like being an ass and make a blog specifically titled "f*ck." It was nothing more than that. My other post was in response to The SquirrelMeister's comment. I was agreeing with her and elaborating. However, in reality, this has NOTHING to do with the fact that the blogs here are crap.
And Yay! is right. People here have been a$s since day one. I remember the members from '04. They generally were not nice people.
P.S. This blog isn't anything against Slappy. I love her. :D
English is not my first language, and when I first joined GSB I was awful (I know I've got better, I can still read my journals from when I first joined and they're full of grammar and spelling mistakes). I had more friends then than I do now, and they never bullied me for my grammar or spelling skills. They just ignored it tbh.
/just saying
Maybe I had a different experience to you then. When I first joined, I posted a journal with pretty much the worst grammar in the world and no one was a ‘grammar nazi' towards me; people used constructive criticism and I was actually helped. There have always been a lot of people who went overboard on the whole spelling/grammar side of things, but I always have seen people using constructive criticism to help others, even though quite a few members have become the ‘grammar nazi' figures.
People have always overreacted, but people have always been helpful.
@We're Outlaws, Yeah!, I joined a month after you and I've been here pretty much constantly since and I can honestly say that that has never been the case on GSB.
From the moment I joined, right till now, people on here are grammar nazi's and if they commented on a persons phrasing, typing, spelling or grammar, it was in a mocking way, never a kind and helpful way, even if it was meant constructive criticism. It's actually the best it's been in a really long time, mostly because of the extreme lack of people, but really, people are being much less arsy about it now than in the past, this blog aside, and I'm really curious as to when you think anyone on here was ever nice to people with lack of English skills? o.o
I know you’re trying to make a stand, but do you really think this is the way to do it? Some people aren’t good at English; they can’t form sentences, they can’t always use punctuation correctly and after a lot of negativity, yeah, some people give up trying.
People are typing things which mean a lot to them and you’re ‘rebelling’ this much over the fact they might not be able to use grammar and spelling to your level? I admit, some people use too many exclamation marks and don’t punctuate properly, but surely, informing them of this, so that next time they can do better, is a better way forward? Link them to online word processers to check spelling and grammar if it bothers you that much.
In your comment, you mention that you would ‘expect there to be a lot more respect for the blogs’, but before you can expect anyone else to respect them, I think you have to respect them yourself by, for example, not posting things which are against the rules.
At one time, GSB was a site where people could come on, make mistakes and GSBians would help them learn by explaining and aiding; you know, being nice. I suppose things have changed if the way we deal with it now is with profanities and what will undoubtedly be you being banned from the blogs.
Ugh, I know what you mean. I'm so sick of these blogs that are supposed to be SO meaningful, yet the author can't even take the time to actually give it some effort and use basic grammar and punctuation skills.
It's one thing if English is his/her second language, but most of these people are from English speaking nations where you write papers for school...in English. Unless they're all failing that subject, I would expect there to be a lot more respect for the blogs.
Hell, it's not even that. It's just that these kids are CONSTANTLY typing in run on sentences. That annoys the hell outta me.
And the sad thing is, this is one of the most interesting and well written (not to mention grammatically correct and well-spelled) blogs I've read this year.
