Bow Down To The Tarts.
For a while, music videos have been highlighting (for lack of better words) sluttiness and rudeness. I suppose you really should think before imitating stuff you see on TV, but it's getting silly now. It's like a sumbliminal message a minute: "It's okay to curse loudly cuz you want to. It's okay to walk around barely dressed. It's okay to publicly oggle other people. It's okay to make tasteless remarks 80% of the time. It's okay to get drunk and lauch yourself into a brawl."
I suppose they've toned down the whole gang violence and drugs stuff, but now they're really into behavior that normally, one would not put up with and that one should not have to put up with. They show beautiful women wearing bikinis wandering around near general stores. You know, I don't mind if you like your body. But there are places when you kinda should cover up. And then there's the guys leering at these women.
It's always nice to be appreciated, yes. But when there's six or seven guys trying to see down your shirt...that's different. And while I haven't seen it in any videos yet, the same applied for girls. If there is a guy with a very nice body who happens to be wandering around shirtless for some reason, that does not mean it's okay to just stand there and stare.
And then there's the cursing. I curse. I do. But not all the time. No one does. But now some people try to insert as many random curses into their sentences as possible. Why? What purpose does this even acheive? The same goes for tasteless remarks. Just because some stranger has a nice ass, does not mean you should approach said stranger and tell him/her of his endowment. Because get this: it's rude.
Now, we come to Avril Lavigne's new video, Girlfriend. It's a catchy song, isn't it? Even though it's really annoying at first. Anyhoo, those of you who haven't seen the video, you can head on over to Youtube. But it's a mean, mean video. You see a tall skinny guy dressed in black hanging out with his girlfriend, a pretty redhead who's dressed very conservatively. And then you see another girl, dressed in black being rude to the redhead, flirting with the redhead's boyfriend, verbally abusing the redhead, and hitting the redhead with a golf ball. If I were the redhead, I would tear out Avril Lavigne's pretty long blonde hair and stuff it all up her nose. No, not really. But I would at least stand my ground. This has nothing to do with anything does it?
But yeah. People like this kind of behavior. They cheer it on. They support it. But if someone did that to them it's "BITCH!". Don't believe me? Read the comments under the video. Go to another video you can think of that's tasteless or features people being rude and tarty. The comments usually go "Yeah! This video rocks!"
And there's another thing bothers me. In that Girlfriend video, instead of standing up for his girlfriend, the dude lets goth-girl walk all over her and smiles and flirts, etc. I suppose males would flock to the video to see Avril bouncing around in a tight top and short shorts and there, they'd get the idea that it's okay to watch your girlfriend get bullied while the bully flirts with you. It's rather annoying.
And so, my random rant comes to a close. By the way, yes, I did copy this from my thread.

It's kind of weird in my opinion for Avril to be singing a song called "Boyfriend" when she's married. Women have to stand up for themselves. Hopefully then the explotation will end.

What's wrong with Britney Spears? Britney is talented and amazing, even if she hasn't made the world's best decisions.

Avril is a traitor to the world of rock. I think many people would agree with me. Before i thought she was cool...and now she has kinda become what she hates. She has become the...ew, dont hate me for saying this ... but she kinda reminds me a little of britney spears...actually i just said that to undermine her. But yeah, i agree with everything else you said too

In Avril's defense, she never actually stated that she was punk. She just dressed a certain way and we all made our assumptions. But Lizzie's right. She used to dress conservatively. And by this, I mean, like a normal human being. And then this video comes out.
She's trying out a new sound and I don't care about that. It's a funny song anyway. But that abhorrent video. She's wearing this tiny little top and shorts so tiny I don't think they qualify as clothing.
lyrical_mess, April 10th, 2007 at 05:32:03am
A couple years ago she was all 'Oh, I'm so punk!'
And now she's gone completely against that.
I've never liked Avril, and now I know why.

Now because of stuff like this girls have "expectations." Instead of being free, independent women (haha like that song..) girls are slowly turning into products of the media. I hate seeing this happen.

i agree! I confidence my ass. Who are the catcat dolls targeting here, where do they want their music to reach. For guys who watch television. Yes, i guess girls who watch tv and at clubs, i wouldnt have a clue i guess, but for f*cks sake, it brings me down so much for all the women who fought so hard for womens rights and respect, and then you get so many stupid ladies in this generation shaking their ass on tv for publicity and sell some records. They are morons!
Vegemite, April 10th, 2007 at 12:29:07am
Good point Vegemite. I watch it sometimes just to laugh at how ridiculous it is. In this one episode they take the girls out to a resturaunt and all of a sudden there's this window with dancing strippers in it. So what they had to do was they had to all do that to "bring up their confidence." When I saw this, I was so outraged. Young girls watching this crap would think that wearing barely anything and dancing around is being confident. That's being a controlled rag doll with no life! It's horrible. Over my dead body that doing that makes you confident because through my eyes, you get your confidence raped and torn away because of it.
threeam., April 10th, 2007 at 12:09:07am
yeah, its like that catcat dolls tv show. Seriously, i think it is rediculous!
I saw a bunch of girls being taken to a catcat dolls concert right. Fin, but one girl started crying, and you know what she said
"OMG, that could be ME up there!", but she was for it, she wanted to be up there wearing hardly any clothes and bringing on sh*tty music!
Vegemite, April 9th, 2007 at 11:20:31pm
I think Avril is just like P!nk. They're becoming what they were against in the first place.
It's all because sex sells.
vonny, April 9th, 2007 at 09:20:49pm
I agree. It's just encouraging the younger generation to do that as well.
Particularly creating shows like 'The Search for A New catcat Doll.'
*swears profusely*
Worst of all, most of the women trying out for that show have no brains whatsoever, and are all getting somewhere in life through their hot bodies and talent for dancing.
And Homochair is very right about Avril Lavigne, becoming everything she used to hate. Even my sister, who's 12 and obsessed with Avril Lavigne, can see this.
The Brightside., April 9th, 2007 at 07:28:41pm
I agree with you all. And HomoChair, that's so damn true. She's everything she used to hate. I thought she was different, I thought that for once there was a female artist that was actually the underdog... Now look at her. I can't stand her stupid Girlfriend song. And I can't stand the way stupid things are encouraged.
threeam., April 9th, 2007 at 07:08:10pm
Totally agree with you Sruti
And Avril Lavigne has become everything she used to hate
Everything she used to stand up for, has gone down the drain in her world
I can't stand the woman

Amen sistah. That should be the BLOG OF THE MONTH.
Funky Platypus, April 9th, 2007 at 04:01:55pm
Mhm. True. It's very annoying. But there are plenty of music videos out there who don't promote such things.. and those are the good ones. :] Just stick with them and everything'll be fine. ^__^
