Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | I think I cook too well to stop. I mean what's the point of being vegetarian if I still have to cook meat. I couldn't stay vegetarian at all. My friends demand food from me, and I demand it from myself to. I guess that's the downside of having my families secret recipies, I can never be vegetarian. But with recipies like these, I won't ever need to be. |

Bleach Rotting On Here ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 47505 | I remember making this point a month or two back. okay. an example, a... wolf. or wolf pack. the pack goes for a young, powerful moose [exaggeration, whatever.] the wolf pack jump on the moose, tearing the skin off while it's [the moose] running away in terror. and then eventually it goes down from exhaustion, and lays there being torn apart. yeah. it's called 'survival' we are made to eat meat, and so does any other animal. Hell, animals in the wild are probably killed just as brutally as in the slaughterhouse. Maybe just not he same way, but the same pain and suffering. It's all part of life and survival. |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Love In Cold Blood.: There is a gigantic difference between animals living in their natural environment and actually being able to live as animals. That animal wasn't created soley for the purpose of dying. It had the chance to live how it should, and actually have a chance at surviving. Domesticating animals and breeding them simply for the purpose of killing them is something entirely different. How they are slaughtered isn't even relevant. I agree with you that eating meat isn't cruel; but how we do it is disgusting. |
Bleach Rotting On Here ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 47505 | Kurtni: ![]() I totally know where you're coming from, I mean, maybe we were just 'gifted' [if you must say] to have this advantage? maybe a because alone, how humans are so much more weaker than other animals, [without the things we have] this is how we get food? I think about that alot... ![]() I know, it's horrible. I saw a video of a man in a crowded area full of sheep, with an electric saw, and went up to a sheep and started to saw it's head off. it's disgusting. |
miau King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 4469 | I hate how parents always try to convince their children not to be vegetarian. It's alright with my mother, but my father, whom I spend more time with, because I live at his palce, doesn't allow me to be vegetarian. If he cooks meat or fish for lunch I have to eat it, he'll just make me. otherwise he takes away my favourite CDs or something. I would also not allow my child to be vegetarian if they would just don't eat meat and not try to replace the iron or animal fats it contains buti f they would it'd not be a problem with me. I also think parents will have a smaller problem convincing their children if they have stopped eating meat for a diet instead of not wanting to eat dead animals. I hope you understood this, the dictionary wasn't really helpful. T_T |
Christie__x Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 40 ![]() | I'm not sure if this has already been stated but I saw in the first page there was a lot of confusion so here's a wee excerpt from the veg society's website: A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products. Types of Vegetarian Lacto-ovo-vegetarian. Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet. Lacto-vegetarian. Eats dairy products but not eggs. Vegan. Does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product. I am a lacto-ovo-vegetarian but I'm planning to slowly become a vegan. I have been a vegetarian for 9 years this August. My life pretty much revolves around this. I'm a strong believer in animal rights and I don't want to have anything to do with such sadistic practices. However, I must admit I purchased a leather belt but that wasn't intentional and I refuse to wear fur or use any animal based product where possible. I do support peta and peta2 but not completely because I believe some of their methods of prevention and protest are far too unorthodox. I am anaemic and it's only recently I discovered that this is why I suffer from severe fatigue but I choose not to take the iron pills I have been prescribed because my anaemia isn't that bad and the pills make me feel ill. I don't think I suffer from a calcium deficiency either or any other type because I watch what I eat and make sure my diet's balanced. I cook my own meals even though both of my parents are vegetarian because I like knowing exactly what's in my food [such as the quantity of oil used] so that has nothing to do with me being veggie but rather fussy. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | It is impossible I think to find a calcium defficient vegan. I mean, all you have left to eat is pretty much dark greens which are packed with calcium. I am however extremely worried about anemia for my freinds who are vegans, and for yourself. I urge you to find an alternate iron supply soon because your anaemia could worsen and there's no point in getting hospitalised when you could easily prevent it at a much cheaper cost. Besides, I think the mojority of fish sold are not farmed. I know however, PETA will have different figures on that. |
Christie__x Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 40 ![]() | There are plenty of tablets out there vegans could take as calcium substitutes. I'm fine for now really, I just need to eat more vegetables higher in iron. I only needed to take 3 iron tablets a day which isn't very serious. I don't know where you're from but in Scotland, they still continue to sell farmed fish in supermarkets. Also, I think my body would hate me for suddenly feeding it fish or some other animal after a 9 yr break. When my sister turned back to meat after only 5 or so years, she was ill for days. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | I have never heard of that happening before. |

Jay. Geek ![]() Age: 102 Gender: Female Posts: 160 | I’m a vegan. I have been since I was old enough to feed myself. My parents always had a hard time getting me to eat. They cooked a lot of meat and discovered that most of what I was refusing was meat and dairy. So they gave up and let me chose what I wanted. As I got older I made my own decision not to use animal based products. I’m a member of a few animal rights groups and persuaded my parents to eat less meat and more vegetables. My parents are very old fashioned and have meat with every meal. They enjoy my vegan cooking. I don’t preach to people though, people can and will do what they want. Well, as long as they aren’t harming animals…but I won’t get into that because I will start my preaching. |
Sylar Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 5703 | Christie__x: I've been vegan for about three years now and I've found that I can get all the vitamins I need through eating the right amount of this or that a day. I'm almost certainly positive that taking tablets would be easier, but it's not a neccessity ![]() |
Plug In Baby. Addict ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 11334 | Jam: How is having meat with every meal old fashioned? My brothers and my dad have meat with every meal too, it doesn't make them old fashioned. They like their meat. I don't think you should force or persuade anyone to not eat meat or to eat meat, I think it should be their own decision. I know you said you don't preach, but I think talking your parents into following your own choices is wrong too. Oh and I had no idea what lacto ovo meant, it was on my flight itinary and I was all "wtf is this mum" and she was all "idk that's weird". It still taked yuck, I hate plane food ;_; |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Plug In Baby.: Forcing your beliefs on someone and discussing them aren't really the same thing. Thats just politics, you debate about all kinds of things because you think you're right and you want others to agree. Alot of people who are vegan consider eating meat a matter of animal cruelty and I don't blame them for feeling strongly about it, they have the right to express that. If we never tried to persuade people to agree with us, what would we accomplish? ![]() I know for me personally, sometimes talking to people who disagree with me just strengthen my views and make me realize exactly why I feel that way. I think its important. |

Matt Smith Admin ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 31134 ![]() ![]() | Kurtni: Let's put a pack of lions in a zoo and see if they're still top of the food chain. It's all relative ![]() |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | The point is of course in evolutionary terms, not food chain-wise. And for the very last time, YOU CAN'T BE 'TOP' OF THE BLOODY FOOD CHAIN! It's a food chain people, there is no top! But one of my fouvrite sayings to do with modern age culinary is, 'One lives to eat, not eats to live.' |
Comic tragedy Idiot ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 546 | Kurtni: Technically, you read that wrong. It wasn't my sister's boyfriend who said that. It was said by someone he knows. And when they said "I" they referred to the human race in general. If you're going to throw that person into the middle of the African grassland, you might as well throw everybody in, too. And let's take this situation like winning a million dollars. Yay, you're rich. Let's say you can only spend this money on, say, jewels. Are you going to stoop low and buy a cheap, plastic necklace, or buy a fancy, nice, gold & sapphire [all real] one? |
