I know, but if they must generalise meat eaters, then I'll do just the same for vegetarians.

Vegetarians can't eat McDonald's burgers, generally they will be healthier but I don't think that should affect life insurance.

I don't think it should either Think I don't even know how you would go about proving something like that.

It's quite unfair, I think. Black people generally have weaker immune systems, I've never heard of them having to pay more.

I hate that people become vegan because it's a popular thing to do now. A lot of "internet celebrities" are, so some people decide they are, too. I know a few people like that. And it is really stupid that they do it for that reason. But I have nothing against it otherwise.

i hate it when people sell out their beliefs. it only makes other peoples' less meaningful. it's like fashion; if everyone started dressing really punk or whatever it wouldn't be punk anymore...

Why is it stupid? They aren't promoting killing of animals and if they're serious about I don't care what their reason was. Thats like saying people who donate to a certain charity are stupid because they saw a celebrity do it. Well no, the reason celebrities help out with certain campagins is because they want people to be influenced and they want people to help. They're lending their name to a good cause.

I actually I saw the movie Fast Food Nation and couldn't bring myself to eat meat anymore after actually seeing what they do to them. I didn't do it because it was the "trendy" thing to do.

I eat meat, I'll start there. I have absolutely NOTHING against vegans or vegetarians...actually, out of my 8 good friends, 6 of them are either vegan or vegetarian. But the thing is, half of them only do it because it's "cool". I was wearing a shirt one day that said "SAVE THE ANIMALS" and it had gorillias and pandas and stuff on it and my friend Laina called be a hypocrite for wearing it because I ate meat, so I asked her, "Have you ever seen me eat panda's in my evening meals?" and she hung her head and said no. If chickens ever became endangered, I wouldn't eat them anymore. That's my philosophy, but as I said before, I have nothing against vegans or vegetarians. Mr. Green

I'm a vegeterian myself, and yeah a big reason why I stopped eating meat was because of videos I've seen. And no, not all of them were from PETA. Yeah, though I agree PETA can exaggerate sometimes, at least it's getting the point out there the people need to stop treating animals like they do. Animals are being treated badly, and there is no way to exaggerate that.
I've seen it first-hand, and even though that wasn't so bad as they show in those videos or whatever, it's still no way to treat animals.

I actually would eat meat if they treated animals better than they do because I know that humans probably weren't made to be vegetarians. I don't think that vegetarianism has much to do with being healthier or not, you can be just as healthy while eating meat. It all depends on your diet. I'm definitely not any heathier than when I did eat meat, but that's really just me because I don't eat food that's good for me.

And as to wearing animal products, that just makes me sick, because you don't see humans wearing other humans on themselves do you?
Animals are just not for wearing.

You all talk about animals being treated bad, but I have never seen anything like that in Croatia. Ok, those chicken "factories" look sick because there is like a million of chickens in an in-door place and its filthy and it stinks (I have been to one of those places). But aren't those chickens more secure of getting an illness than free bred chickens? When we had that small case of bird flu, only that small amount of chickens that farmers held were infected. But yeah, my family always buys free bred chicken, mainly because I have some cousins in the country. And again, through that cousins, we get healthy (I hope well treated) swine meat and lamb meat. For cow stuff, we go to the butcher.

To be honest, I have never felt guilty that I eat meat. I don't eat chickens pumped with steroids and pigs that have been slaughtered with a butcher knife. Do I feel sorry that they die? Not really. I kinda think farmers earn their living because of me. Well, actually my only argument would be that well..... I like meat. And I have so many leather products I would be a hypocrite to say anything different.

Personally I don't find eating meat something wrong.People have been eating meat for thousands of years, haunting and all that.(Yes yes I know that civilisation has developed) but I don't find it a bad habit at all since you need the proteins in meat. The "animals are so cute and fluffy I can't eat them it's so sick" doesn't work for me.idk, maybe now you imagine me eating meat nonstop, but actually I don't eat meat more than twice a month, especially during summer.Don't get me wrong, eating vegetables it is more healthier ,I know, and it reduces the risc of cancer(as I was told by some doctors) I agree but I don't get the idea of not eating meat at all just because you respect animals.I respect them too,I strongly disagree with clothes made of natural fur,but not eating meat at all is something else for me..

On this subject, here's an interesting question: how do the vegetarians and vegans on here feel about fake meat? I see NO problem with it but I had people complaining about it on an animal rights group I'm on on MySpace.
This is only slightly relevant but I thought it couldn't do any harm to mention it:
A Rabbi was doing a talk thing to my class & he was saying about how he doesn't eat pork substitutes because it gives a false illusion of eating it, or wanting to eat it.
Yeah, he wasn't an animal rights guy but still.

I don't see the point, really. If you avoid the real deal, I don't see why you would enjoy the imitation. If I was to put my love for animals aside, I still wouldn't even like the way meat tasted, so I would definitely not be interested in a reminder.

Because just because you are against the death of animals doesn't mean your taste buds change. The real deal results in brutal and disgusting deaths. The imitation doesn't.

But it imitates the real deal which results in brutal and disgusting deaths. It's awkward eating it.

It would obviously depend on the reason why you were a vegetarian.

Some people are vegetarian for health reasons, aren't they?
They might not have a problem with eating meat.
So substitutes would be ok for them.

On the other hand, someone who is vegetarian because they don't like the taste of meat obviously won't want meat substitutes.

It's awkward for you, but that doesn't make it wrong.

It's awkward for me to be around certain people, that doesn't make them bad people.

Just because a person decides they don't want to support the killing of animals does NOT mean that their taste buds change. No matter what, people who enjoy the taste of chicken are going to enjoy the taste of chicken, it's far better to have them eat something that wasn't killed than something that was.

I didn't say it was wrong, I just said that most vegetarians probably wouldn't eat it. When you first said 'your taste buds won't change' I thought you were suggesting we need meat one way or the other. I misunderstood then. If they like the taste they can eat all the fake meat they want.

I just fail to understand why a vegetarian would want to eat that, because I personally think becoming a vegetarian is a big step and more than often people have more than one reason for doing it. One of them probably being disliking meat in general.

But yes, Meg said it's convenient for people who had to give up meat for health reasons and actually enjoy it. I don't mind fake meat, it's not hurting anyone, is it? I just wouldn't eat it because it clashes with why I became a vegetarian in the first place.

It's just as easy to have an unhealthy vegetarian or vegan diet as it is to have an unhealthy diet eating meat. Some health issues are even easier to get when a person stops eating meat.

That I agree on.
Meat is full of protein.

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian (I love meat but think killing animals is wrong) but my mam won't let me because I'm slightly anaemic and too young.

Too young? What does age have to do with anything? =/ That makes zero sense.

There are pills and foods to help with anemic problems. Talk to your doctor.

It does actually. Children or teenagers are not encouraged to become vegetarians because the protein meat contains is important for their development.
