They put chemicals in store-sold meat so it can resist bacterial infection so you don't die. Smile

I'm vegetarian right now. I was vegetarian for probably half the time I was a teenager. And I've just recently become interested in being a vegan. I really want to learn a lot more about it and incorperate it into my life more before I make a 100% plunge. I don't want to end up calling myself vegan and then continue eating something that I had no idea wasn't vegan. And I want to learn how to make more vegan meals and everything.

I think it's a great idea, though. What they do to farm animals is HORRIBLE. Even for just dairy products. And I had no idea until recently. We are all so detached from what happens to all of these animals for food to be on our table.

I think the only real problem is trying to get enough B12, but you can just take a supplement. Since you can't really get it from plants anymore because of the lack of nutrients in the soil.

I personally distrust vitamin supplements.

They aren't digested as normal. If the tablets dissolve in the stomach, they won't pass as many nutrients onto you.

I once read that it goes straight through and that they are a waste of time but that was a while back in one of my Mom's magazines so...probably bullcrap.

I don't think veganism is right, you starve your body of what it needs, vegetarianism is like a lesser form, but at least with that you have more chance of getting what you need without having to take suppliments; (which in my opinion is stupid for vegetarianism because why not just eat what we have rather than making something specifically for it)

Plus who wants to eat food that falls naturally, it's almost always overripe then.
Also an added point to that vegetarian animal thing I forgot to reply to:
If you get an dog/cat/whatever and throw it a vegetable or a piece of meat, what will it immediately go for?
The piece of meat 90% of the time, there's nothing wrong with also giving them vegetables but dogs/cats need a large amount of protein and nutrients found in meat, and taking away what they naturally eat can't be right.

Also humorous added point. A lot of the vegetarians I know have superiority complexes and think they're better/healthier than everyone else and that we're monsters for eating the cuddly animals - Sry2say but Hitler was a vegetarian, and you're calling me a monster?

So we don't need calcium, iodine, and certain vitamins?
The answer is yes we do.

No, I said a lot. Not all, there's a difference.
Did I say I wanted to wipe them out? No so don't jump to conclusions. I make a joke point about how the people I personally know call me a monster when Hitler was a vegetarian and they view him also as a monster and you completely jump down my throat about wiping out vegetarians, please think twice before you do that again.

Also, I couldn't be a stereotype if I tried.

We can get all those from other things. More than just meat contains that junk.

And also, slightly off-topic, y'know how there is this little Middle East crisis with Palestine and Israel? The guy who made up lateral thinking suggested that we ship out Marmite as they eat unleavened bread and therefore they "don't get enough zinc" and apparently, zinc causes irritability and Marmite contains a lot of zinc.

Made me laugh because surely they must have other forms of food stuffs that contain zinc. And the fact that it was Marmite. XD

Sorry but I had to bring that up.

I wonder why I know so much junk? Confused

I didn't jump down your throat, I called you on making stupid comments. Mr. Green
Sry2say but Hitler was a vegetarian, and you're calling me a monster?
Your only purpose in making that comment was to aggitate people, so if you have to debate like that you need to rethink your arguments, you shouldn't have to piss people off to prove your point.
please think twice before you do that again.
... or what? I don't think you need to theaten people.

And sorry to inform you, but you are a perfect example of a stereotype. You use silly logic such as your little hitler joke and you think vegetarians can't get the nutrition they need. Your views represent those of probably 90% of the misinformed people who oppose vegetarian eating habbits for those reasons. It would appear that you don't even have to try to be a stereotype, you're doing a great job already.

It's not a stupid comment since I explained it was about the vegetarians I personally knew who are idiots. And sry2say doesn't automatically make it stupid.
Was it to piss you off? No, I brought it up to counter-act what they said for irony/humour purposes only. If I wanted to aggravate you I would've said that all Vegetarians are Hitler or something.
And what point was I trying to prove according to you?
The only point I had was that most of the vegetarians I know are idiots who think eating cuddly animals is wrong. Also most people in general that I know are idiots.

No, I said that because you do need to think twice, and read over what I said. What I'm saying doesn't always come across at the first read. The way I express myself/a point is often difficult to fathom.

Again, didn't understand me. Naturally (equaling without supplements) vegetarians could not get all the nutrition they need like calcium and vitamin B12 which are only found in Meat/Dairy products. So sorry for disappointing your judgment of my stereotype, but I am informed. I never said I opposed it because of that reason, I don't oppose it, I just think it's stupid to not eat what we're given generally because of small cute and furry things which have feelings (so do plants you know. Wink ) I wouldn't be one myself though. Up

Mr. Green That certainly isn't what you said before seeing as how you didn't mention the word naturally. See, when you elaborate and actually explain what you're trying to say, people understand what you mean. When you make vague, incorrect statements you're going to get called on it. At any rate, why does it matter if it's obtained naturally? I gurantee you the meat you get at the store is just as unnatural as any vitamin supplement with all of the additives and preservatives in it. Unless you get it from an organic farm or grow/raise it yourself, no food you eat is perfectly natural.

Anyways, you're still wrong, because meat and dairy products are definitely not the only source of calcium and B12. There is a ton of calcium in orange juice, Broccoli, kale, spinach, ect. Spirulina and tempeh are two common sources that vegnas get B12 from. Just because you're misinformed doesn't mean other sources don't exist.

Sorry you were saying about me not saying that before?

I said it all before in the first statement, you just didn't read over it. It's still a natural food source even with preservatives, vegetables have them too so your point doesn't make sense?
And I do happen to eat organic meat. [:

I never said they were the only sources of those things, I listed them as the main sources. And what you listed up there is pretty much trace amounts (apart from the orange juice which more pulp is added to) compared to the real thing which doesn't even harm the animal.

I think it means if you eat healthy, you will be healthy. And unhealthy makes you unhealthy.

I wish it was like in that sweetcorn advert were you literally became what you eat. I'd be Italian!

So...yeah.

If we really were what we ate, I'd be a giant soy latte.
