I encourage all of you to see "Thank You For Smoking" if you haven't already. Even if you're apathatic about the whole smoking issue, it's hilarious and gives a neat perspective of debate and arguing one's point.

If you are concerned with smoking (which I assume you are, since you're reading this thread), it strikes a chillingly resonant chord.

I heard it was good. I should really check it out.

it was about as political as any Michael Moore film

I don't care much for intolerance for anything
that movie just felt racist to me (and it was good for a few laughs...but about as funny as Man of the Year

Obviously I liked it. It was more..."balanced"...than Moore's work. Everybody was a scumbag, not just the "villains."

its kind of an open ended discussion....its wrong that tobacco companies are selling a product that may be harmful. but it only causes cancer if you smoke it a lot or are around the smoke alot. if people are dumb enough to smoke large amounts then so be it. the only reason it isnt illegal is because it is only a danger to the person actually smoking and has no immediate affect. like, marijuana is illegal coz when youre high you do stupid things and dont have control, its like being drunk. if you drive when youre high you have an accident, etc. but since smoking only affects YOU in the LONG-TERM no one actually cares about it. so yeah, you could say its the tobacco companies fault for selling it or the consumer's fault for smioking it!

Second-hand smoke also harm those who are around the smokers. It doesn't just affect and ONLY affect the smoker.

Here's what I have to say.

I tried cigarettes and weed a few times. It's all totally overrated to me. Even before I did it. I don't want to go in that direction. I want to have a good life and all that jazz. When I tried cigarettes it really wasn't that great. Just another reason to cough all the time. When I tried pot I felt really shitty and not me. I didn't like any of it.

I kind of wanted to know what the 'other side' lived like. I thought they were getting more out of life and having fun. But when I tried it was thought, "fuck this. This doesn't do anything but fuck me up." So I don't anymore. It's just not where I want to be. I don't want to be able to say I was addicted to cigarettes. I don't want to slowly kill myself and shave off a couple of years of my life just to gain a few more entertaining moments in youth. Fuck that. I got high and stared up at the ceiling with no intention of doing anything productive. Wasn't me. Didn't like it. Fuck it.

I wanted to say to people that if you think you want to try it, it's of course your choice. Make the decision of whether you are going to keep doing it or not. Just remember that you're hooked or not and whether you are throwing your life away or not. I'm not really encouraging it; just saying that...I wouldn't do it again.

I don't believe all of these ads about great taste and the encouragment of smoking because there's nothing beneficial about it. It's disgusting and amusing at the same time of how such a mass of society will do that to themselves. No matter, I'm just going to live. I won't say it's my problem that others are smoking because it is partly. Secondhand smoking, etc... If you want to...it's open ended. I'm not saying do it or not do it. Just make the decision of what ya feel is right or not.

Isn't second hand smoke a falacy(sp?)
Honestly, most of us know the side effects to smoking whether it's permanent damage or just down right fatal.
Whatever the deal is, smoking will hurt some part of your body either way so if you are pressured to smoke, just ignore it and move on with your lives.

I make no sense but whatever.

I'm very proud of you.
It most definitely leaves a huge burden on your life.
I mean, I haven't done any pot or smoking but I do know that both my parents had to work their asses off and have all their will power to quit.
Now I know they are gradually recuperating even with the little tint of black in their lungs, but it's a great start.
You probably won't take this in to consideration but for the fact that my parents are alive and strong as ever, which is the same for you, I'm proud you quit and you didn't like it.
Good job. Up

Are those people in public places against their will? Nope, sure arent. If the place wants to allow smoking, it's their choice, just like it's your choice to go there and be exposed to it.

Personally i think its disgusting, but thats just me.
I can't stand the smell of smoke or being around someone thats smoking, however its there choice so i won't say anything unless i care if they die or not.

I agree.
That's been the case for me for about 12 years.
3 Years old and my parents were smoking. They stopped just recently.
I take singing lessons at the New England Conservatory and one day, my teacher said to me, "Liz, do you smoke?" and I was appalled and said, "No. Of course not. Not for the fact that I sing." and she continued to say, "Well, do your parents smoke?" and I admitted, "Yes."

"Oh ok. Because you riek of the smoke smell."
That bothered me the whole day and I was mad at my parents.
So yes, I'm not a fan of smoking or smokers.
But it's their choice to continue or to quit and no one should stand in their way to tell them what's right from wrong because they should already know.

Ok, I think I'm done. DX
