spill_no_sick Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 31 Gender: - Posts: 8588 | s0dapop_and_ritalin: well, the Church thinks that you can only do it if you're married, and they don't want gays to marry....which is perfectly fine since most marriges now derived from the Christian way of doing it |
Just a Puppet... Addict ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 12044 | Sheepo@_@:I was tought that the church sees sex as something for a married couple, and that it was only allowed in marrige because children should be brought up in a married family, as the Bible says. Homosexuals can't have children, and cant be married. (Reminder: Marriage is a bond between and man and a woman) |

Kitti Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 5688 | when christianity was founded, Rome was very pagan and very...okay with homosexuality (sad that my history class cant bring themselves to even say that word) and bisexuality. the christian faith, in an effort to separate from that abhorred it. actually, that would probably be one of the many issues discussed at the council of nicaea ( i havent the faintest idea how to spell that, but it was the council that decided what would go into the bible and other basic religious doctrine). also, this council decided that jesus was born in winter (he wasnt because the caesar's census was taken in spring...you do the math) to coincide with the pagan solstice. so some crazy things there, but i dont think the church has the right to decide something as big as homosexuality based on that, and especially that tradition isnt always right. |
dirtyhippie Geek ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 466 | I'm just concerned that the religious right feels it's necessary to bring good, Christian values back to America, to get morality back. Not that Christianity isn't moral! It's just that: A) Just about every other major religion in the world (Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, etc.) has a remarkably similar moral code, and B) Christianity doesn't have the greatest history of following through with following their its moral code once it has an ass load of power. Think about the Crusades. Some of the most brutal, bloody wars of the pre-Industrial era, and all in the name of a "turn-the-other-cheek" religion. In the words of Larry GOnick, "Man, the other cheeks' gonna turn around so fast you won't even now what HIT it!" |
spill_no_sick Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 31 Gender: - Posts: 8588 | dirtyhippie: ![]() one of the rules in the forum is "no misleading or propaganda" war has never been about religion, religion has just been a scapegoat yeah part of the Crusades was the spread of Chrisitanity, but one of the main reasons was becasue Italy cost too much to travel through and trade with (which is how Columbus discovered for the Europeans Americaa, he looked for another trade route) The Crusades may have had an affect on religion, but it wasn't all about that and "turn the other cheek" refers to some one punching you, not declaring war on you, then it's not Christian, it's down right Socialist check my sig, I think it's quote refers to you misleading more than your quote from some comedian codems the Bible |
dirtyhippie Geek ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 466 | spill_no_sick: Ah! I was wondering when I'd get into a discussion with you. I've heard of your reputation from paradoxical (good friend of mine). For the record, I don't believe that anything I said was propaganda. (If it was, that's the first bit of propaganda Buddhists have had in centuries! w00t!) Which parts were propaganda? I can support pretty muchly everything I've said thus far with last year's Global History class and my home history books. Which brings me to another thing: I most likely should have explained who Larry Gonick was before I quoted him...He is a historian who has published ten or more books on varying subjects, three of them world history, one US history. All are meticuously researched and all are in a cartoon-comic style format. These books are where I draw a lot of my knowledge of history from; his website is larrygonick.com. Now on to the debate: Urban II was spurred to start the first crusade through urges from a man named Peter the Hermit, who brought tales of how decidely un-Christian the Muslims were being in Jerusalem. The pope gathered an army and sent them off (an over-simplified but true explanation). The second crusade was motivated by attacks on Crusader settlements by a Muslim general named Zengi. Etc., etc., etc. It is true that Italy was an expensive trader and suchnot, but it was that COMBINED with the fact that no European traders could get through the Muslims that spurred Columbus on to sail across the ocean blue (and discover a land that had long ago been discovered by people from the north traveling across the Beringia). Good to finally talk to you. |

And then they made their new year in December, whilst ours is still in October...Then anyone still following the Old Religion in like...I don't know...1600's...Anyway, when King James 1 was on the throne, he brought in the Witchcraft Act and burned..well...a whole lot of people!! But I've kind of moved off topic sooo..... -Shuts up- |
