i don't think it's bad talking to ppl on the internet, but i mean, you are not going to talk to someone that you think it could be dangerous...unless you are stupid...

But how can you tell? I mean, they may seem perfectly normal at first, and they build up your trust, and then they start asking more personal questions, and because you trust them, you answer the questions.

I was pretty stupid, I gave out my phone number, my full name, my address to some people on the internet. I had never met them before. And then I flew up to Brisbane to meet them. They turned out to be real people, and not peadophiles, but it was still pretty stupid.

I think it is dangerous, if you're not careful. Like me, I'm just out to talk to people my own age that might understand me and listen to me, as apposed to people who are out to find someone to date, that they don't know, and who might be out to get them.

it depends on how well i know the person.
I've given out my phone number (to Molly)
and no harm done.

I think that people overreact over it.

Yes and no...in my opinion it's all how someone was raised on how dangerous it can be.

If someone is level headed and understands the 'goldenrule'

If it looks too good to be true, it probally isn't.

This is forgotten by alot of people who get taken in by 100 Coach bags for sale on eBay or replying to an email that says they won some lottery from another country or taking what they see online as gospel truth.

For these folks it dangerous.

I have an online admirer who my friend knows. This guy knows absolutely nothing about me. It's really funny... but I'm not "dangerous", as far as I'm aware...
As long as there are strict rules and someone makes sure they're carried out, then there's nothing wrong with online chat. Web cams can be pretty dangerous though...

I don't think it's as dangerous as people think. As long as you don't tell too much personal information.

I agree. It all depends how careful you are. I gave thsi girl my adress and my name and she sent me some awsome CDs. Its not like she came to kill me or something. But usually you can realize who is suspicious and who is alright

Well it depends on what the person is like. You know, It's not like You go around giving Your number to people who You've just started talking to. I mean Yeah, I have given out my number to a few GSBians but it's only the one's I've chatted to for a while.

It depends on how careful you are. Some people can be quite stupid but if you know what you're doing then there's no harm in talking to people online.

Some of oyu are right. It is very much over reactited, but it's like the whole seat belt thing. They over do it so that we dont do stupid shit like give out our phone number to a random stranger we've seen no picture of, webcam of, videos of, or anything. But none of us are that stupid. Adults really over do it sometimes thinking that kids know no better. I mean, they must think we're some kind of dumbasses.
I know. Never give out your home adress or anythign to someone you dont trust. I know I want to meet my friend Megan, she's so nice, and I've seen her on webcam and in pics and on her site and etc. She seen me too.
I think that its wrong when parents look over the shoulder of their kid when they're on the internet, because thats a complete invasion of their kids privacy. Seriously, and the whole parent lock thing? If my kid wants to look at frigging porn, they can! It isnt a crime! I mean, if their talking to a 40 year old when their five and having internet sex, yeah, I'll wanna know so I can stop but reading their emails and putting locks on chat websites? Thats a bit extreme. Adults tend to over react.

I dont think its dangerous to talk online if you have a common sence.
That would be stuff like not giving out personal things like adress or phonenumber out to people you dont know/trust stuff like that.
So no, i dont think its dangerous if you just use your common sence. You can have fun without meeting people.. And if you give your email to people you dont know, you can always make a new email (I know you can if you have Hotmail.) or block the person, and if he/she writes an email, just delete it.
Okay, so i have given my home adress to a few people, but only the people i really trust. People i know are who they tell me they are. And ive also given out my number to 3 people i reall trust. But parents must be stupid if they realy think id be out putting my phonenumber/adress out to everyone on the internet. I wouldnt..
Okay, rant over.
