I believe one of the largest misteries of all time deserves a discussion topic.

She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson June 1st, 1926 in Los Angeles, California but was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker. She never met her father and her mother, Gladys Baker was diagnosed with paranoid schyzophrenia and was eventually committed to a mental institution.

Norma spent most of her childhood in foster homes and even in orphanages, also under custody of over 10 different people. By the age of 18 she had already attempted suicide two times.

It is believed that Norma also experienced horrible fear of inherating her mothers mental problems.
After her fist marriage with Jimmy Dougherty ended, she was discovered by a photographer namd David Conover. Shortly after, she became a very successful model and found herself on numerous magazine covers. She signed her first studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26, 1946. She earned $125 a week. Soon after, Norma Jeane dyed her hair platinum blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe (borrowing her grandmother's last name). The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

But neither money or fame would stop her deep anxiety and depression. Celebrities of the 1960s were privileged to many things, including getting any medication one wanted. And even though her career bloomed, Marilyn had tried to kill herself two more times.
She had also suffered from cronical insomnia. She used to take sleeping pills at night, and amphetamines in the morning, when she needed to be in the mood for work.
She had seeked help from therapysts all over, but never was able to overcome her depression. The most common technique used on her was the Freud technique, including dream interpretation and such. This type of therapy would only end up doing Marilyn harm, since it had forced her to recall her devestating chidhood years.

Marilyn was found dead in her bed, on the early morning of August 5, 1962 at the age of 36.
Officially, the cause of death was suicide, but there had been many assumptions, some of which even include an involvement of J.F.Kennedy. Some say it was probably an accidental suicide, since Monroe had developed drug toleration and often combined pills and alcohol. Other experts suggest that her therapyst and her doctor prescribed her two different types of medication which should never be used together.

So what are your opinions on the death of one of the, if not the biggest Hollywood icon of all time? Accidental, suicide, murder, or something else?

Why? There's obviously evidence for both sides, or there wouldn't be a discussion or controversy.
And do you mean Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, or Edgar Allan Poe?

(Yes, I agree with Nick, this should be a bit more general to discuss other cases)

Why dont you make this thread into all unsolved mysteries?
Cause I been hearing alot on that little girl the one who was a pageant queen and got murdered.
Im sorry I know her name but I dont want to mispell it...uh let me try Jon Beanet Ramsey? Close...i hope. I just felt so sorry for the little girl cause her case was also unsolved and her mother died aswell and that brought the whole thing back into the media.

I believe that she was mourdered because of her connection to the Kennedys. I don't know who actually did the specific killing though.

I wrote a paper on this in high school

i think it was murder. i knew that she had an affair with one of the Kennedys, RFK i think (i'm not sure). JFK had been trying to sort of destroy the mob during his presidency, so i think that someone from the mob killed her, as a sort of warning to keep away.

I think it was suicide with Monroe, Cobain, and Poe
all have attempted suicide plenty of times before, Cobain has even left us with like three suicide notes from failed and succesful suicides
I believe the Kennedies were messed up but not enough to murder

and I believe Poe has attempted suicide by alcohol poisoning before, so why is the succesful one an "accident"?

yeah but what about this....

There were no fingerprints on the gun,but there were smear marks of where it had been wiped with something, and Kurt wasn't wearing gloves...

Kurt's heroin blood level was 1.52 mgs per litre. This would require a minimum injection of 225 mgs of heroin, three times a lethal dose, rendering him unconscious (or into a coma) and unable to use any form of gun.

The last line of the note: "Courtney keep going for Frances, Ill be at your alter. I love you, I love you." was detected as NOT Kurt's handwriting. It was almost scribbled in, but Kurt couldn't have done it when he was on the dose of heroin because he wouldn't have been able to have the hand-to-eye co-ordination to write.

Before this, Courtney had hired a hitman called El Duce to shoot Kurt for $50,000, but he refused. As soon as the press heard about it, El Duce died when his car was hit by a train, with him unconscious inside. Courtney later admitted in a lie-detector test that she had paid El Duce to kill her husband.

Take a look at the song You Know You're Right, the last song recorded with Nirvana before Kurt's death. The lyrics are not describing someone planning to leave this world, they are describing leaving SOMEBODY and starting a new life without them.

Jesus Christ people, Cobain has been dead for 10 years. Get over it. And even if it was murder, he'd still be dead from overdosing.

Cobain DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE. i made a thread on it a loooooooong time ago because he didnt, in short.

1) shortly before his suicide, he was making plans for the future. people who are about to kill themselves do not do this.
2) the suicide note is clearly written in two slightly different handwritings. only in the second part does it mention suicide, the first sounds like he was leaving nirvana. handwriting sheets like those little children do to make their writing neater were found... in courtney love's bag.
3) courtney love tried to hire a man called el duce to kill kurt. he refused the offer of money and/or sex, and a lie detector proved that he in fact was asked to kill him but he didnt. he was then ran over by a train in odd circumstances.
4) at the time kurt cobain alledgedly pulled the trigger on the gun, he had enough heroin in his bloodstream to kill even a user. you may say over the years he developed a partial immunity, but this amount would have at least rendered him immobile.
5) when courtney love's p.i. went to the house with their nanny mike "cali" dewitt after kurt went missing, cali claimed the "greenhouse"-type area where kurt was found was a place where timber was stored and there was no need to check there for him. this was about 2 days after kurt's estimated time of death.
6) kurt was found by a technician working on the garage alarm. the alarm was not meant to be being worked on at the time, but courtney love rang up and said it was urgent that they check on the alarm. from where the man was working, he could see kurt's body.
7) the police report claimed a chair was propped against the door and it was locked in a way that could only be locked from the inside. far from it. in fact, the chair was not even resting on the door and the lock was a simple latch mechanism so someone could have triggered it then left. the main person working on this case was considering re-opening it when he died in an "accident".
8 ) after kurt's suicide attempt in rome, it took courtney three hours from when she woke to call an ambulance and when it arrived she had perfect makeup.

i apologise if any of this is incorrect, as it is from memory.

wrong. both courtney and cali have refused to take lie detector tests, it was el duce who took the lie detector test. it proved she TRIED to pay him to kill kurt but he refused.

Adam, I remember reading most of that on different websites.

Pastor of Muppets:

I thought about that a lot actually.
He did not kill himself.
