Is that the case? And what’s that been like? John Barrowman: She’s not writing a book about me. Together, we’re doing my biography. I was asked by a publisher in the UK to do that. I was quite surprised that they asked, because I don’t really think I’m that old yet to be penning such a thing. But my sister, yeah, she’s been following me for the last six, seven weeks. We’re collaborating. I’m dictating into an iPod, and she takes it away and puts it onto the page, and she’ll be with me for the rest of the summer, going back. In fact she’s sitting back there, if she just waves her hand. Some of this might even be in the book, so behave. Then we’ll go back to the UK and do that. We have to put it to the publishers in August. Is that right? Yeah, because “ John’s Sister: September. John Barrowman: See, I have no fucking clue. Julie Gardner: He just talks into the dictaphone. John Barrowman: Yeah, I just talk into the dictaphone. She does all the work. She’s penning it, basically. But they actually wanted me to say I was writing it, but I wouldn’t have anything to do with that. I said, it’s about me, but it will be ” my sister will get the credit as the author on the book. Reporter: Is it kind of weird collaborating like that? I mean you said it’s not a book about you, but I beg to differ. John Barrowman: Well, no, it is a book about ” it’s a book about me, but told by me. It’s my stories of my career, my trials, my tribulations, exciting things that have happened to me, my family situations, all sorts of things. But I have no problem ” I’m from a very kind of close, tight-knit family, and my sister knows everything about me, as do my family, so I have no problem telling her all this stuff and sitting, listening to it. There’s a couple of times she goes, “Eww, I don’t want to know,” but I think she’s slightly got “ John’s Sister: Actually, five times. John Barrowman: Yeah, five times. I think she’s got over that. I think it will be an interesting read. It’s not going to be written in your classic style of, “On the day of March 11th, 1967, I was pressed out of the womb,” nothing like that. It’s done in a… (Audience begins to laugh at the womb comment)Well, we all were. It’s going to be ” it’s more storytelling than that. I think it should be interesting. Reporter: To follow up in your earlier remarks about comparing your work on the Aaron Spelling series, “Titans,” and what you’re doing “ John Barrowman: You’re not going to let it go, are you? Reporter: I’m letting you dig yourself out of the hole “ John Barrowman: No. I quite like being in holes. Julie Gardner: Oh, my God. John Barrowman: There’s a little bit of Captain Jack in me. Julie Gardner: A lot. I think that’s going in the book. I think she made a note. John’s Sister: That’s number six. |
