And I did need to go in today so I could sort out a drummer for recording seven nation army but that's gone tits up.

I think there's a boy in my form who plays drums though, I dunno.

ELLE, COME DOWN AND PLAY DRUMS FOR ME.

Argh, will someone give me a reason as to why I shouldn't drop out of college? Cos I think I'm gonna talk to my mum about it tonight.

Cos it's like, definitely throwing my brains away, but I don't even go so there's no point staying.

Fuuuuuuuck. I dunno. Help?

Hahaha I started this morning all giddily happy and now it's just gone to shit.

dont drop out of college honey. i know its hard but youre an intelligent person so you can easily cope with a levels, just suck it up and get them done. if you find it hard to motivate yourself into donig this youre gonna die if you go to uni.

by dropping out youre just closing a load of doors which is a shame cos youve got loads to offer and youve been given the opportunity to offer it.

ive been under obscene amounts of pressure over the last few years and thereve been many times i felt like giving up but that just isnt the way to approach life - especially not right at the start.

No but there are other ways to do things, not JUST a levels. And I've barely got through one term without being kicked out, I'm fucked if I'm gonna try and get through another five... besides, I don't go, so I'll get shit grades and they won't be worth anything. I dunno. Pfft.

Mum's coming home early to talk.

I really DO NOT want to stay on though.

yeah but what im saying is, suck it up and do the work cause youve still got time to turn it round and then you WON'T be fucked.

and sure there are other ways to do things, id never put anyone down that wasnt academic and wanted to take a vocational route but youre better off usinhg the talents youve got or you might wake up one day and regret it.

and shit grades are better than no grades, any other attitude is a bit defeatest. even if you dont go into further education its hard to move up the ranks in any company these days wihout some kind of formal qualifications

its only a year or so of hard graft, youre better of just doing it. what doesnt kill you makes you stronger, yo

But what if it does kill me Jonathan?

Besides, I can't face another year and a half of being permanently unhappy about college.

At the end of the day I'd rather be happy than have a hench list of letters after my name. And I'm not gonna do A levels without going to Uni, so is it really worth getting myself in so much debt, especially with fees going up, to do something which I don't like.

I dunno. Pffffft.

ahhh that old chestnut. student loans are entirely worth the money cos if you cant afford to pay them back you wont and even when you do it just comes out of your paycheck like bit of extra tax and you barely notice it. besides the amount having a degree adds onto the salary youre able to get up to means that the (usual) £10,000 debt pales into insignificance. dont think about debts, no one i know worries about it, especially as there isnt any interest. it seems like a lot of money to you now but it really isnt.

it isnt about having letters after your name, its about using your potential. im not gonna be a doctor for the status im doing it cos ive got the brain and i think itll be enriching, stimulating and worthwhile and also means i wont have to live paycheck to paycheck ten yrs down the line.

and a year and a half isnt permanently unhappy considering what itll do for you in the future. its better to have a short period of shit now then years of mediocrity if you cant find a job you like.

AND in my opinion the academic and career benefits of going to uni dont even COMPARE to the value of the life experience you get from it and the difference between people who have been to uni and havent is so apparent that its scary. it changes you as a person and makes you more rounded, tolerant and socially intelligent and employers know this. if you can go, dont throw it away.

sorry for the rant but you did ask for my advice Cool

Yeah but you don't need a levels to get into Uni either, cos you can get in with other qualifications.

And it IS permananently unhappy for the next year and a half because I actually can't stand it, and I don't want to put myself through that.

And I know it isn't really about having letters after your name but what I mean is I don't want to go to university and be unhappy doing it just so I can have a degree, because that's another three years if I don't like it.

I dunno, I'm really confused. But I just am quite sure that I shan't be going back there. Besides, at the end of the day, if the plan goes to shit I can re-enroll next year, and I'll just have to stick it out.

I'd rather risk 9 months of my life than 20, tbh. Because if I can get sorted in the next nine months then it'll be well worth it. If I can't I'll have to go to college and deal with it.

I completely disagree with you, Jonathan. It would make sense to encourage her to stay on if she was actually going to college but simply not enjoying it. But the fact is that she's never fucking THERE so what's the point?

yeah but i was only talking about uni cos you said that was the reason you were doing a levels and you didnt think it was worth it to get yourself into debt.

it sounds like youd already made up your mind to be honest.

i already covered that. my point was that she should START going. i just think that if you find something hard thats all the more reason to do it but thats just my attitude, it isnt everyones and i know that. i was just giving her advice on something i feel ive got experience in, cause thats what she asked for.
