So I'm sort of a regular over at this website, and at the beginning of every story, slash or no, the author states that he or she does not own the characters of people in the story, and that he or she is making the story up entirely and none of these events really happened. Which I think makes it pretty clear that the events following are not real, and no sort of facts can be drawn from them.

I think slash is a quite legitimate type of fiction, and it's all a matter of taste. Personally, I find it entertaining most of the time, and there are a lot of slash authors who are extrememly talented and their stories contain a lot more than sex, and they just happen to have characters and people in their story who already exist.

the second part you wrote, I totally agree with.

And I think there's a difference between a good writer writing some good stuff, and some 15 year old writing silly stories about band members giving each other blowjobs. It's just another form of porn to me. And porn is lame.

Personally, if someone was going to write a story about me, I'd much rather it was about me falling in love with/having sex with another woman than if it was about some of the other subjects fanfiction covers, like turning characters into rapists, murderers and drug addicts. Coolio

slash isn't always blowjob and anal sex. there are so many fics out here that have love as their storyline as opposed to raw hard sex.
I'd much rather read "love" or fluff than sex tbh.

If I was in a band and people were writing slash about me, I would file sexual harassment lawsuits. Coolio Not even kidding. I think writing erotic stories about people without their consent is wrong and shouldn't be done. If the band/celebrity is ok with it, that's perfectly fine, but otherwise I consider it disrespectful.

But you can't sue over fiction writing, especially if there's a disclaimer that says you don't own the people in your story, and you made up all the events occuring in said story. Dno

doesn't really matter, I wouldn't want to have stories about me written that are about me sucking my band member's dick.

The thing is, once you put yourself into that spotlight, you become expendable. Your image is no longer your own, so to speak. People are free to make whatever conceptions they please about you. It's one thing if you're a private citizen, to come across something like a slash-fic written about you, but when you're a celebrity, and part of your job is being famous, you can't really complain about things like that.

I think that's a bit unfair. If you're a musician, you're putting your music out there. If you're a myspace whore or something, then okay, but musicians usually aren't trying to get their image out their, they want their music spread.

My views are that it's legal and people are free to think/write whatever they want, but it's demeaning and disrespectful (at least in the case of musicians), because they're trying to get their art out there, and you're basically ignoring their talent and "using" them for sex.

And as for the non-sex fanfics... I'd just find it weird if a bunch of kids were writing random stories about my personal life.

dude, its weird.

i mean if you were in a band, and you google yourselfs or something, and you see loads of storys about you and your fellow band members having sex and stuff.

i'd be freaked out.

I've written slash fiction, usually I like reading it. I don't like incestuous slash though. You know, Gerard and Mikey, Madina Lake, Good Charlotte and the like.

But usually it's hot Very Happy

I think there's a perception of slash as this sex-filled porn mania, but that's untrue. Yes, there's some slash fics that feature hardcore sex, but for every one of those, there's at least six others that are quite tame and fun to read.

I agree that musicians are concerned with their art, but all of them have an image that they cultivate and maintain. I mean, look at Billie Joe Armstrong. I'm sure he doesnt' act the same as he does onstage and in interviews that he does in the quiet of his own home. In that sense, they're creating a character, and slash writers are just taking that character and using it.

For copyright purposes, you couldn't. But if you sued for harassment, you could.

But it's not really about their lives. It's inspired by them, but it's not about them. It's not real. Ideas have to come from somewhere, right? If an idea for a story comes from an aspect of your favourite band members life, is it really that bad to use them as a character to put that idea onto paper?
