The first two are outstanding. I don't know if it was because I read them before I watched the show but I would say the books were better. There's a thing in them that I don't get why they changed in the show - you never know what Sgt. Doakes's first name is and its a running joke in the books that his first name is actually Sgt. And when you do find out at the end of the 2nd it's Albert not James. Also there is nothing about Dexter pretending to be a drug addict
I'd still recomend the third but I thought it got very weird, didn't like it as much as the first 2
