The winners, losers, and the out the door losers., chapter 1
I sat in my room doing my homework which was to write a 1 paragraph narrative essay about me, my life, or anything I like/ interests me. I drew a blank on what to write. Yes, my life is interesting, but I don't like writing about myself. I finally picked up my pencil after brainstorming for 15 minutes and began from the start. The start of it all.
My name is Meg, I am 16 going on 17 and here is my essay. My life is a big canvas, so many things that I could paint about. I'll start from the beginning though. When I was little, oh maybe 4 or 5 my dad left home to become famous, get rich, or at least die trying. Every night I would sit in my room staring up at the stars wondering if he would ever come back. I would blast his music and listen to his bass pounding in my eardrums, to the beat of my heart. That was, until one day when I finally realized he wasn't coming home. I found out, 3 years after he left that he wasn't coming home. I cried until my eyes were bloodshot. About a year later I found out he was with another woman and they had a baby together. Her name is Stella my mom told me. If you're wondering how my mom knew it was because she heard it on the television. You really didn't think they still communicated, did you? It took me about a month to realize why he wanted Stella and not me, and the reason is that I'm just a part of his past, and she is his present and future. The paparazzi called him Mike Dirnt. He was Mike Dirnt from green day, the king of punk rock. Not Meg's father. Well technically yes he was her father, but in a sense no he wasn't. One fall day I was sitting in my room talking on aim when the phone rang. No one was home besides me so I picked it up. The caller asked for me, and told me he was my father. I didn't believe it. My dad, Mike Dirnt was calling me after 10 or 11 years of not seeing me. Trust me; I didn't let him off the hook easily. I asked him everyone question in the book, from "why did you leave mom" to "why have you waited 11 years to call me"? While I was talking to him...er..screaming at him would be the better term. My mom came home and asked who I was talking to. I told her and she got flustered and picked up the phone. 5 minutes later I found out I was going to visit him in California. Now you have a little taste of my life. The bitter half of it. The end, for now.
-Flashback-
While I was at my dad's house, the first time I ever been there, he asked me to stay with him...forever. I was shocked, and I took a moment to think about it.
"Is mom ok with it?" I asked.
"Yeah. She wants you to stay with me, she said where you used to live is not a good place to raise you."
"Are you sure you want me to stay with you?"
"Yes. It was always my dream; I just never got the chance to ask you to."
"Ok."
-End of Flashback-
I set down my pencil after writing my paragraph and walk downstairs. I go down into the basement and see dad, Stella, dad's new wife (Sarah), Tre, Billie Joe, Frankito, Ramona, Joey, and Jakob. They were all over because it was Stella's second birthday. We sang "happy birthday" and ate cake. I had to laugh because Stella got cake all over her face and in her hair. I wiped it off with a napkin and walked back upstairs. I called Tyler, my boyfriend and talked to him for a while. We decided to meet at the beach in 15 minutes so I ran to my room and got my bikini on and put my waterproof mascara and eyeliner on. I picked up my sidekick and responded to a couple of text messages, and then started walking to the beach. I reached the beach, the spot we normally meet at and he wasn't there yet so I brushed my feet through the warm sand and stared at the waves. 5 minutes later he came and embraced me in a massive hug. I hugged back. He whispered in my ear lyrics to a song, our song.
"Did it mean anything to you," he repeated the lyrics over and over again.
I smiled and stared into his eyes while he sung. I thought about the meaning the song has to us. It definitely meant a lot.
"I'm so glad its Friday," I said.
"Same here." Tyler looked out at the sea.
"Think we will always live here?" I asked randomly while watching the sunset
"As long as I'm with you, I don't care where I am."
"Aww Ty that's so sweet." I kissed him softly on the lips, he kissed back, harder.
We sat down in the sand to watch the day slip away, and night come into view. The sky turned flame orange, then burgundy, and finally black. This was my favorite spot on the beach, and my favorite person to be with, how could I possibly be any happier?
"Want to head back to my place for a piece of Stella's cake?" I asked
"Yeah, of course."
"Cool."
"Yeah."
We walked, hand in hand to my house. Our walking pace at the same rate, each step accustomed to each others. We finally reached my house and we walked in. Ty went right over to Stella and picked her up, spun her around, and put her down. Stella loved when he did that. I cut a slice of cake and gave it to Ty. I sat down in the chair next to him and as I turned to him, I was greeted with a big clump of icing that he smeared on my face. I did the same back, and eventually it turned into a massive food fight between everyone in the house.
-Flashback-
6 years ago when I was ten I had no birthday party. My mom barely made enough money to support the two of us. That said, we didn't have enough to even have a simple birthday party. The only time that we ever had any money was when mom found a suitable guy, for a short amount of time. Short amount of time because they would move on, or find someone new, or simply just walk out. Mom became desperate around my 10th birthday. She started taking ecstasy and crystallized meth to make herself feel better for a short amount of time. Other times she would be working at the strip club, going up and down poles for money. She would come home drunk, with a new guy every time. She would beat me and call me vulgar names.
-End of Flashback-
Now that we made a mess with the food fight we all started to clean up. Tre started complaining that he didn't want to, but Billie told him to grow up. It took no time at all to clean up our mess, since there was so many of us. After we were done Ty and I went to Gilmans. We walked in and...
