Something my teacher said has just made me think so much.
“Life’s not about how many breaths you take, it’s how many times your breath it taken away”
[I’m not sure who first said it]
In an assembly [as well as showing embarrassing pictures of me] he showed us some pictures from the Normandy trip. When I was in year 8, 40 of us went to Normandy. And this blah is about one of 7 days, well actually about 2 of them.
On one of the days we had a huge car crash on our way to the German Cemetery. So we got there late enough to go in, but too late for the American cemetery. I’m sure most are aware with ‘D-Day’ and the Normandy landings. This was one of a few in the area. Want to see it?
It’s called La Cambe. The first picture is of the monument in the middle, the second is of he graves:

See each one of those plaques. 2 people are buried there. That’s only about ¼ of the cemetery. Imagine how my breath was taken away viewing that, I cried, and wasn’t alone in doing so. 20,000 people are buried there.
The next day we visited the American one. It’s right next to the beach where the had to fight for their lives. Saving Private Ryan was filmed there, watch the beginning when it opens to this place. Have your breath taken away.

That doesn’t too bad. Wait til you see the Aerial version:

In the second one you can even see the beach. I sat down on one of those graves; the name escapes me, and just was speechless. For the same reason there is little description in this blah I was and still am speechless
I still can’t get over it, it’s just amazing, but for all the wrong reasons.

I did a speech on the normandy landings last year.
first i did a breif explanation then i had some actual footage, and it was silent and i had wake me up when september ends going the whole time.
Its funyn how repercussions and consequences are never really thought about when they start the war, but they sure impact a lot of people.

Wow.. So many graves, and deaths. It's horrible seeing something like this and it makes you really appreciate being alive.

*tears slightly
we visited the same garveyard with the RAF in the cadets last year
its so sobering just to see the sight
i know what u mean..it just overwhelms you....i swear there were 50 of us..and by the time we all got on the coach...we were all silently cryn and no one talked on the way back
considering how most of the guys there were usually quiet hyper
it shows just how big an impact it has on people..
even now im unable to come to term that so many died
especially when half the tombstones enscribed where for 16-18 year olds..
may they rest in peace <33

Oh goodness. This brings back so many memories. I was on a similar trip last year. And it astounded me, the extent of these cemeterys. We did an exercise when we were there. Bearing in mind my whole year group were there[there was like 100 students]. We were all told to select a gravestone at random, and place a poppy at it. And that soldier, was ours. He was the one we pictured at night before we slept. He was the one that died for his country.
And now. When i think of war. Alan Lovegrove makes an appearance in my thoughts.
