My brother is a vegan yet he eats [or he wishes to] fish about once a week :/

Then he isn't a vegan. He's not even a vegetarian if he eats fish.

Not true, vegetarians don't eat meat, fish isn't actually meat so some vegetarians eat it.

If fish isn't meat, then what would you call it? Fruit?

Vegetarians don't eat animals. A fish is an animal.

Well no it's not a fruit.
Cows, tuna and chickens are sorted into Meat, Fish and Poultry, not just meat.

Vegetarianism is the practice of not eating meat. So some people use this to mean they can eat fish and poultry, which seems pretty hypocritical to me, but who am I to judge.

Hmm. Very "pick and choose". I mean, they don't eat meat, because they think its wrong. But its ok to eat poultry and fish? I don't get it, they were all alive at one point, they are all bred to be eaten, they were all killed. So.. why meat and not the others?

Its silly, to me. Some people, at least, its the way it seems within the people that I know, only become a vegetarian for the attention. I mean, I'm not ashamed of being a vegetarian in anyway, but I feel like a pain sometimes, when people I'm staying with have to find something vegetarian for me to eat. Its awkward.

Some people are vegetarian's for health reasons and it has nothing to do with animals, so yeah, you can be one and eat fish, but if it's because you think it's cruel to eat animals, your pretty hypocritical.

Ah yeah, that kills the fish doesnt it? I doubt the fish is still alive when you eat it.

Yeah, I meant to say that. I mean, I don't eat meat for a variety of reasons, I don't like that they were alive, I never liked meat to start with, and I was just brought up to not really eat meat all that much. And at the age of 7, I saw my fish that I have having for dinner had scales on it, and never ate a fish again. And to the other post, just above mine, well, even though she eats meat, at least she is eating meat that is more humane, you know? Prehaps she has to eat meat, my friend has to, because she cant get the protien any other way, she really does have to eat meat.

A vegetarian is a person who doesn't eat meet, but eats eggs, milk, cheese and fish(sometimes). A vegan refuses to eat anithing comming from animals.

I don't eat any meat, or fish, or eggs, cottage cheese (ew). And I drink soy milk.
But I still eat cheese, and other dairy products... What does that make me?

Yeah.. exactly. You're a vegetarian if you don't eat meat/meat products.

You're a vegan if you don't eat animal products.

I'm only a vegetarian, but I don't use milk products (allergy) and I hate eggs, but I wear leather belts and stuff, when you're a vegan you don't use leather..

Im a vegetarian and i dont wear leather and studd. It upsets me. But yeah, you can get protein by having protein injections.

there is more than one way to get protein. You could do that, or just eat different foods. Meat is not the only source of protein.

I'm still against it, but I do understand why they do it, and they need to.
But, when people wear fur for fashion purpouses, thats revolting. I don't like the idea of people also adding it into their clothing lines [ex. J.Lo] it's not cool.

i agree, i'm not a vegetarian or vegan but i do thinks it wrong for animals to be killed for their skins for fashion, some people do it to survive that is understandable.

The could still wear something else. Im not opposed to wearing fur as lonng as the animal wasnt killed for its fur. If it died naturally i wouldnt mind. But no, its not, they are brutally murdered. Its distgusting.

Furs are often a by-product of meat - the animal is killed specifically for its meat, but instead of wasting the fur that's used too. I think that's how pigs' leather is made. (don't quote me on that, I'm not certain. It would make sense though). I don't wear fur anyway though. I just don't really like it. I mean, people in cold climates don't really have anything else to wear. They DO need furs to survive. And I don't have a problem with that, but developed countries in warmer climates like Britain, America, etc don't need it all. It's just for vanity here.

An animal, its meat, and fur should be treated with respect. Not brutally slaughtered, but killed as humanely and efficiently as poissible. Welcome to the twenty first century.

Well, that sucks. They should do. Quality meat is better for you, as well. I heard that somewhere. And most processing companies are pigs anyway. (excuse the pun)

Im cool with vegatarians, I dont think they're stupid or anything I think its great that they can make that sacrifice! The thing that pisses me off is sometimes they shove it in your face. "DONT EAT THAT IT USED TO HAVE A FACE" or something else. I mean alot of people dont like other people to push their religion, so some people dont like you to push your decision of not eating animals on them. :/ I dunno it makes me upset cause I would see some kids on VF who are vegetarians and are saying how its the healthy way to go and that I should become one also and then they turn around and they wanna kill themselves :/
...Im getting off topic cause I know most of you arent like that but that was just one expierence .-.

humans are omnivorous animals so i figure our bodies do need some minerals and stuff we get from animal products.

I do feel guilty about eating an animal (why should it have to die so i can have a meal? i could just as easily have a can of peas) but i also think that if the animal was raised in a natural/organic environment and matured naturally (no use of growth hormones etc) and most importantly treated humanly then it is fitting in with a part of a natural food chain and there is no reason why people shouldn't eat it.

I know that it is hard to be sure where meat has come from and how it has been treated and you do see some horrific videos, i am strongly against animal cruelty and exploiting animals for reasons of vanity - fur, leather, testing etc but if an animal like a cow is in the wild it is likly to be killed and eaten anyway by whatever the top predator is etc so why shouldn't humans eat it?

i am vegtarian, not vegan. i protest for against animal cruelty

i think though that we were meant to eat meat and lots of animals eat meat, and we kill some animals painlessly, other animals, like sheep and goat, they cut there throat or hook them on meathooks (while they are alive) and let them bleed to death.

also. we kill aimals for food, but also nothing gets wasted, i mean we make leather out of beef cows etc
