so.. I'm not trying to start anything here but.. there have been studdies to say that plants may be inteligant beings... I for one believe, no, they are not.. but say they are. That means... vegetarian or not.. we are still eating living, inteligant beings.
If you want to not kill living things.. than lets all eat dirt and rock. Either way... ya gotta eat to survive.... and ya gotta eat something living... cause living things are really all that harbors energy.
WHATEVER.

Can You Say OBSESSED:
We have tofu, tempah, soy, lentils, etc..., and do not need meat in order to survive.
Not everyone likes to eat those things. A lot of people actually prefer the taste of meat. You have to understand that.
We've been through this. There are a great deal of ways to recreate the taste of meat synthetically.
Had you bothered to read not so previous posts, you would know this.

Yes. That picture actually does make me smile. And yes, veggie burgers are yummy.
And back to the whole synthetic taste thing, who cares? People like to eat meat. Some people refuse to switch to non-meat diets unless its like an extreme medical reason. And if eating meat puts a smile in your stomach, pig out until your eyes pop. Who's gonna stop you?

I must admit, I do eat a lot of vegetarian dishes (because of my sister it's so much easier sometimes to just cook one meal and split it between us) but I could never give up meat. I love the taste and the whole reminder of home thing.
Plus, Quorn sausages taste like cardboad

Apart from the evil commando seagulls that hang around here. They eat pigeons. And attack kids. And steal your food.

example?
Dr. Jagadis Chundra Bose conducted an experiment where he had plants write their own signature on a piece of smoked glass using electrical stimuli.
He discovered that plants are very sensitive.. and have a reflex arc ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflex_arc ) like an animal.. and it's own type of nervous system that corresponds to certain cells.
Than there's Cleve Backster who attached electrodes to the leaves of plants. He found that the plants were extremely sensitive to his thoughts.. especially those that were threatening and violent. He also found out that plants react when another cell near it dies... and it has a sort of memory.... recognizing the person, out of a line of anonymous people, who killed the cell when they came near the plant..
Meh... So who knows.

That is so so so cool. Have you read The Sound Machine by Roald Dahl? This guy builds a machine that can hear all sorts of sounds and he ends up hearing plants screaming. [/cool-ass spam]

Also, I don't have any links, but it has been proven, that when talked to lovingly, many houseplants grow faster and have more visually pleasing foliage.
I did laugh at this for quite sometime.

Anyone watch Mythbusters?
Seven small greenhouses were set up on the M5 Industries roof. Four were set up with stereos playing endlessly looping recordings (as having the Mythbusters actually talk to the plants could contaminate the samples with their expelled carbon dioxide): Two of negative speech, two of positive speech (Kari and Scottie each made one positive and one negative soundtrack), a fifth with classical music and a sixth with intense death metal music. A seventh greenhouse, used as a control sample, had no stereo. The greenhouses with the recordings of speech grew better than the control, regardless of whether such talk was kind or angry. The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all.

Oh, I love Mythbusters.
Just proves why my plants grow immensely better with The Clash.
But if we would think that plants have feelings what would we eat then? I mean, yeah there are all sorts of products, but I personally think that we should eat meat, vegetables, fruit and other products to be healthy. Either that or a really careful diet.
My sister was a vegetarian for about 2 or 3 years.
Then one day she just "decided" the whole "dont eat meat, animals have feelings too" thing didn't make any sence to her and she started eating meat again.

I personally think animals do have feelings and can think... but mostly for me it's eating something dead, and was once living. I can't stand that...

Though my vet (rather, my dog's vet..) always told me that animals don't think but have feelings..
