It just feels more ~natural~ if I eat meat

Chemicals found in meat/given to animals:

Chloramphenicol - antibiotic given to the cows on their way to the slaughter house. This chemical also prevents the body from making any more red blood cells
Zykon-B - pesticide; the substance the Nazis used in gas chambers
Marathion/Palathion - Also a part of the nerve gas family
DES - Causes massive hormone imbalance, giving 9-year old boys breasts and 5-year old girls pubic hairs and some menstrual bleeding. It has been said that even one molecule of this stuff can cause cancer. [Hasn't been proven though] The chemical has been banned, but is still being used illegaly in some farms
DDT
Aldrin
Kepone
Dieldrin
Chlordane
Heptachlor
Endrin
Mirex
PCBs
Toxaphene
Lindane
-list goes on-

The animals body absorbs all of the chemicals given to them within their lifetime. Their feed is doused in pesticides.

DDT, DDE, and TDE Residues [Measured in Parts Per Million]
Meat/Fish/Poultry - .281
Dairy - .112
Oils/Fats/Shortening - .041
Leafy Vegetables - .036
Fruits - .027
Legumes - .026
Grains/Cereals - .008
Root Vegetables - .007
Potatoes - .003

Factory Farmed animals are fed [besides the soy and corn]

Sawdust laced with ammonia and feathers
Shredded newspaper [the inks and bleches are very toxic - I wonder why newspapers have a particular scent
"Plastic Hay"
Processed sewage
Inedible tallow and grease
Poultry litter
Cement dust
Cardboard scraps
Artificial flavors made to make them eat the food
Cow parts

Wow o_o Right, what I meant by 'natural' was that I fit in if I eatt meat, it's what I'm used to, it's what my friends and family are used to and frankly, I think it's normal to eat meat. I mean, food chain ? Why are you people vegans anyway ?

ah, ok.

True. you are definatley right. One reason that we do it is that because we can (biologically) you don't NEED meat. but excess meat is terrible for you. (and what we eat in the US is considered excessive) It starts to rot in your colon and causes colon cancer, it very much contributes to osteoprosis, and heart problems. It is much better for the enviroment. There are tons and tons of CO2 and greenhouse gases in the air due to livestock and the industry. millions of gallons of water is used, and 72% of all soy grown in the US is used for livestock. If we used that food for starving people, there would be no more hunger. Unless you eat organic meat, (as you've seen) so many pesticides and chemicals are used, that it's mind boggling. The way the animals are treated and killed is absolutely disgusting. People are vegan because (unless you are using organic products), The cows are kept in terrible conditions and are under so much stress, that they only live to be 4 years old. The typical lifespan of a cow is 20 years old. They deprive the calves of their mothers milk, (for the record, this part happens, organic or not.) and are sent off to be either dairy cows, or turned into meat. Veal or beef. And hopefully you know how veal calves are treated. If you don't Google it. You'll find alot. Chickens are kept in horrible conditions aswell. They don't live very long either, and when they die, they're turned into chicken. So if you don't eat meat but drink milk, you are 99.9% of the time supporting the meat industry. That other .1% is farmers and families that use the eggs and milk of their own pets. One person has said that we need to take down the meat industry so the milk and egg industry will not be an evil to the world (also if we clean up the way the animals are treated.) No animal should ever be treated in any of those ways.

I'd become a vegan, but the amount of willpower I would need would be huge. All of my favorite foods use milk/eggs. But I try to buy organic as often as possible

To sum it up:

It's being kind to:

Animals
Your body
The planet

If you hunt, you're eliminating that harm to the planet, though.

I understand it's not being kind to animals but how do the animals that are omnivores and carnivores live ? Killing other animals isn't it ? I'm an omnivore, and although we don't neccessarily need meat, I do. It's better for my body to have meat even if there are a tonne of chemicals involved. I wouldn't go off meat because of the chemicals and leave myself to deteriorate. Also, the eggs I have are from the chickens my family keeps, the chickens are in a great condition. Though, with milk and the meat I eat it's most definitely a different story.

You wouldn't deteriorate if you stopped eating meat, as long a you got the things your body needs through other foods, which is very easily and cheaply done.

I coul eat. They are killed in an unhumain way and that is wrong. I'm much happyer now, and more healthy. Besides, people wouldn't even eat meet if they didn't make weapons to kill. Nature made us as plant eaters

I said I don't mind hunting. Certain animals do need meat. But it is not bad for them because they eat animals that roam around and build alot of red nutritious muscle and livers from eating chemical-free food. It it not 'better' for your body in any way. the majority (or all) of the meat you ea comes from factory farming. The meat in those naimals has 30 TIMES MORE SATURATED FAT than an animal living outdoors where it ca nrun and exercise and is not on a diet made to fatten them up, but rather to build muscle. Eating factory farmed meat does give you protein and B12, but the fat and the chemicals do much worse to your body then the protein and nutrients do good. Oh my god. you won't deteriorate. XDD seriously, why on earth would you deteriorate? eating those pesticides makes your body deteriorate. letting that meat rot in your colon makes your body deteriorate. putting all of that saturated fat in your body makes it deteriorate. You don' tneed to get protein from meat. That's cool. But that wasn't your choice to get those chikens for that reason, I'm assuming.

Killing animals. Not stripping them from their natural environments, keeping them in crude conditions, and pumping them full of chemicals and antibiotics. You cannot even begin to make what humans do to animals prior to killing them compareable to what animals do in the wild.

I'm thinking that there are also pesticides involved in vegetable and fruit production.
Unless people eat organic. Then again, I guess a lot of vegetarians don't have a problem with organic meat, either.

Animals and plants aren't the same thing. I feel sympathy for an animal kept in unnatural conditions. A carrot? Not so much.

(why does this remind me of the rats and potatoes discussion? lmfao)

yeah. I had that long response to the 'natural' argument, it shows that pesticides are found at 2.81 (i think) ppm. dairy is 1. something ppm. fruits and veggies are much lower. potatoes have something like 0.006 ppm
I always use organic eggs and milk, so my pesticide intake is much lower then a typical american

I don't have as much as a problem with it. Just the killing is just as cruel. But I'm very happy that the cows live a good life. There's a hill across the street with plenty of grass and water and hay and moving space for the angus cows

Oh gosh ._. I'm not too fussed about what I eat, just as long as I enjoy it. I enjoy meat. I really couldn't give a damn if there are chemicals in my food, far out. OH NO I'M GOING TO DIE AND GET FAT FOR HAVING CHEMICALS IN MY FOOD OH NO. I really couldn't care about animal cruelty and whatever. I will most probably deteriorate because meat makes up a HUGE amount of what I eat and I need meat to function. Oh and please, I'm not this horrible, cruel person for eating meat either. I'm really sick of people making humans out to be horrible.

How can you not be horrible when you don't care about animal cruelty? Sad

I do care. It's just that I couldn't care about animals being killed so we can eat D: I mean, they are given a good life before they are killed in some circumstances.
