spill_no_sick Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 31 Gender: - Posts: 8588 | people with ADHD get Adderal, not Ritalin....or if you have a damn mom that doesn't take you or the doctor seriously you have to fucking live without it and get grounded if it acts up |
iamkiller Basket Case ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 19586 ![]() | spill_no_sick:That's not true. My brother is completely ADHD; not ADD, and he takes ritalin. The adderal made him throw up. |
iamkiller Basket Case ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 19586 ![]() | junerae:My brother is 9 and is completely ADHD. Badly. I can't even begin to explain. He is about 6 years old mentally. We have tried computerized treatments it is so bad. He has stayed back in school, etc. He takes ritalin twice a day. The adderal dose was too strong and made him throw up. My brother was also on staterra although it wasn't strong enough. Diet tables don't work. Actually, I wouldnt know frankly. My brother is very skinny so he can't take those. He takes a boost, actually. The computerized treatments we tried were connected to his brain to try to help him focus. He controlled the computer with his brain, though it is very expensive and didn't work. Stick with being patient and keep him on a schedual. Type out lists of whawt he has to eat every night (weekly), just keep each day as a game to go by. Keep him occupied. I watch my brother after school and sometiems I forget to give him his 2nd pill for the day. He is horrible when I forget. He fights back, doesn't listen, etc. Pretty much without Ritalin, staterra, etc., my brother would be screwed. He can't work in school without it. He gets too distracted and he is very hyper. He can't work in big groups. He doesn't understand how to socialize. ADHD medication really does help, and I dont know what I would do if it was banned. I would rip my hair out. My brother: ![]() |

Lucifers Angel King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 4751 | spill_no_sick: My son was on Adderal but i took him of it when he started to loose weight! And he had Ritaling and he had Concerta XL, but he is now on Srattera Atomeoxetine. ADHD is NOT caused by bad parenting or lack of discipline, NOR are it's origins related to excessive TV watching - it is a neurobiological disorder, This means that it's causes are based on biological reasons that lie within the brain. Although the exact cause of the condition is not yet fully understood, it is believed to be due to an imbalance of some chemicals in the brain including "noradrenaline" (also know as norepineohrine) and dopamine. These chemicals are responsible for controlling activity in the brain INCLUDING that related to behaviours of impulsivity and attention. ALso it is not the childs fault he cant help being like it, Oh yeah and by the way normal GP's can't diagnose the children that takes a Child Psychiatrist. If ADHD is not identified and treated properly children may be at greater risk of: Low Self esteem Academic under peeformance at school Depression Friendship and relationship problems AND AS AN ADULT: Emplyment difficlties Criminal behaviour substance abuse. some differant medications are: Ritalin (methylphenidate hydrochloride), Equasym and Equasym XL, Concerta XL, Dexedrine (dexamphetamine) and Straterra (atomoxetine) |

Lucifers Angel King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 4751 | iamkiller: my son is on 35mg os strattera in the morning, 35mg of strattera in the afternoon and the he is on Melatonin to help him sleep, We also tried diet, computerised treatments and firm discipline (such has time out and sitting out from the family) (which didnt work becuase it is not a result of bad peranting) he now refuses to go to school and there is nothing that the school can do, he will run into the middle of the road and try and get himself run over, he will go up to total strangers and bite they're bums, he is distructive, he swears a lot, and he is very VERY hyper at home, i also have anolder son who is ill (not with ADHD) and i had to take them to the doctos together and even the sepcialist said PLEASE do not bring them together again, he drove the specialist mad. The medication WAS the last resort and before i put him on the medication i spent WEEKS researching and deciding. Anubody who says that ADHD/ADD doesnt exsist it is just purley a case of bad or poor parenting should live with a family who is effected by it for a few days. |

iamkiller Basket Case ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 19586 ![]() | junerae:I understand. My brother also swears, but he has learned to not say his thoughts out loud. He is actually getting better with age I'd say; not much, but he is. He can get his homework done with the ritalin, I'm not sure the dosage he is on but it's the same dosage twice a day. He used to take 2 ritalin pills in the afternoon, and my mother never warned me that she changed his dosage. So he kept getting 2 when he should have been getting 1. He began to throw up. Pretty much he was getting double what he got in the morning. We give him rewards when he does something right. It makes him sound like a dog to me, but he absolutely loves it. He's a very sweet kid who is very considerate - until he's off the pill. He cleaned his room the other day until it was SPOTLESS and my mom praised him for 2 days afterwards. All he needs is some recognition. He also has weird problems with his clothes, etc. He will ONLY wear sweatpants. He hates wearing socks because they make his shoes "feel weird". Whenever he gets his clothes on in the morning he has this huge 'dance routine' to get his clothes to fit properly. It's truely a sign to be seen. My brother also does not get along with children his age. He is the absolute youngest in his class and he's ADHD. He was born August 31; making it into his class by a mear 2 hours. He has a few friends, all of which are at least 2 years younger. He was on ritalin at a younger age but the dosage he needed was too strong for his weight. They moved around his perscription until we decided on ritalin again. And it's working perfectly. |
