History can be just as flawed as the bible, individuals write different accounts of what happened as the years change truth can become manipulated.

for example it's a very taught idea that thomas edison invented electricity when in fact it was a lesser known scientist named swann.

the government decides what books our taught in school, the next time you open a text book remember that every page has been screened to make sure it fits the accounts they want to be known.

That may be so, I won't dispute that...

But which would you rather believe?

History or the Bible?

I personally would put my faith in History. Yes, History will always be jaded and become less accurate over time...as generations pass mistakes will be made and things will become hidden and forgotten with the passing years.

Actually, there's a point. Couldn't the same be true of the Bible? Wink

I don't see them as different The Bible is apart of our history it's one of the only standing documents that pre-dates roman times.

read it like a textbook, what you said is basically what I say you can't 100 percent trust something thats written by others.

the whole idea of the bible is not to follow fact but to follow faith, blind sided as that maybe.

but if you have common sense , its obvious that someone can not rise form the dead 3 days after his death
or walk on water , what the hell it says

I believe they is much more to life than what we see.

i do too , just not in heaven

I didn't mean in heaven Eh

i assumed that
just stating what i though Retard

Following the Bible and treating it like the absolute truth? That, I disagree with.

Following the Bible, making use of the important, relevant, morals and ethical guidelines? That is how the Bible is best used.

It's no good saying the Bible doesn't have any use because it could be made up. It probably is made up and innacurate, but that isn't what counts.

The Bible isn't supposed to be followed word by word like some fundemetalist will have you believe, hell i'll eat meat anyday i like Wink

I didn't say the bible doesn't have any use in fact i said the opposite Confused

Yes i completely agree it's impossible for a man with no technology involved to walk on water............but then most men aren't born with the spirit of god are they.

Or then again, the walking on water account could have been somewhat garbled in the first place.

It only takes a tiny bit of diversion from the original story, a tiny little mis-translation of the Bible, and it can result in stories such as that.

ah yes the real translation would be Jesus went skinny dipping. Laughing

people back then would be just a skeptical as we are, I like to think that miracles occurred to give people faith.

plus i've always wanted to walk on water so i like to think it as in the realm of possible Wink

I was watching some science thing this morning and I was thinking.....if there was no God, no higher power, that we were just some product of evolution....would that mean there would be no absolute reason to live? I mean the world pretty much sucks....there is some good but....you see the bad more. "Hey look! A big beautiful tree!"......"Hey....12 more people died in Iraq." :/

I don't believe in God, necessarily. I do believe in a higher power, though. I suppose. I'm kind of confused as to what I believe. But I do believe in existentialism. Definition for those that don't know what it means:
"ex·is·ten·tial·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (gz-stnsh-lzm, ks-)
n.
A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one's acts."
www.dictionary.com

But I also believe in fate. I'm currently creating my own religion. It's going to be so backwards and confusing. Because they're rather opposite, aren't they? Fate and existentialism, I mean.

I also kind of believe in reincarnation.

Yes, I know.

I'd join your religion anyday Cool.
I've never found anything I can commit myself to.
So many religions have things odd for me.

I belive in a higher power. Somthing had to start somthing that put up here.
Also, I belive in evolution.

Then of course, I have my Native American beliefs.
The Earth and us are connected.
And if we mess with it to bad, it's going to hurt us.

Reincarnation: Yes =3.

If it wasn't real, how could so many people remember past lives?
How could bad people seem to come back?

So yes.

I don't really believe in god. I mean, you don't need to be Christian to be loving, do you?

of course not, but your religion doesnt really have much to do with your loving capabilities, or at least i dont think it does. whether youre christian or not you can always be loving.

I don't believe in God because some of the bible goes against a ton of things humans have learned.
For example: If all living things were created in one day, how come dinosaurs became extinct more than 160 million years ago?
And as to what if God exists and I go to Hell because I don't believe, even if I did believe in god, I'd go to Hell anyway.

I find respect for the people that do believe in God.

I respect them because they believe in something and have faith in it. Not necessarily because they believe in God, but because they actually believe in something and have faith.

You may think they have a 'lost cause' faith and are stupid and blind, but I think just the opposite...

I think that lots of people need religion and sometimes I really miss the way I used to feel when I went to church, before I realize the church of love was really a church of hate.

I mean, I wore my rainbow pin to Youth Group and I was told in no uncertain terms what a boy there would do if he ever met a "faggot".

I just figure that if God hates gays, kills people just because he doesn't like them, and forgives people that fuck up others' live forever ... what kind of a god is that?

And I just want to bring up something that I put in a theological discussion in one of my stories ...

Why is Satan painted as completely evil? He didn't eat the God damn apple.

Because Satan made Eve eat the Apple...He made her do it. Lucifer rebelled and got himself thrown out of heaven, he was the most beautiful of angels.

There are two views to God: a good God and an Evil God. There is pretty much a strong discussion for both, and I don't know what Bible you've been reading but God neither hates gays, kills people, but the one thing he does do is forgive.* You seem to think that God is wrong for forgiving people, but I take it you'd be one of the first to complain if he was an unforgiving being.

People just want to have something to believe in, they want to think they're not alone in this world, that there is someone higher than them who can control things and reward their good jobs.
