Arceus Jackass ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Male Posts: 1645 | I do somewhat believe in God... now... I dunno I just think that he exists, and I don't exactly worship Him... but I do consider Him as my god. I dunno but I'm not like an ultra-Christian or fundamentalist like that one Landover Baptist site puts out the Fundamentalists to be. Oh and I figured out that the Bible isn't wrong... It's made by so many different authors that contradictions and other differences are innevitable. And when people say that the Bible is the Word of God, that just means it's was inspired by God... but in Religion class in my private school (I have to take it) the Bible is the Word of God in the words of human writers, and that the Bible does not try to be objective history or what really happened. In the end, the Bible is just a book of metaphors that just teaches us to be better people. And I don't find anything wrong with that. |

Flaming Phalanges! Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 17669 | I don't believe in God, just because I'm a person of science, rather than faith. I do think people who have faith (and don't take it to extremes) are generally nicer people, but I think it mostly stems from a fear of God and a fear of hell. Which really isn't an appealing way to live to me. However, I don't like people who try to force their faith on you, especially repeatedly even after you've said no. It irritates me a lot. They should respect your choice, just as you respect theirs. |
Arceus Jackass ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Male Posts: 1645 | Quote 3) well that's a common generalization. Actually, there are a lot of Catholics and other Christians that are fine with it and say "God loves you no matter what." The creeps that discriminate other religions and homosexuals are the literal interpreters of the Bible. These literal interpreters actually believe that the world had to be created in 7 days as it says in Genesis 1. But that is just a metaphor for something else and is just used to convey a message. The reality is that God loves all of us, no matter if we're gay, bi, straight, or asexual. He loves everyone and those literal interpreters can't tell you otherwise, because they are just dumbasses. So don't be afraid to be gay, bi or whatever because God will love you just the same, and probably created you to be that way, and He wouldn't just create something that he could hate. That wouldn't make sense, so you're not going to hell if your gay, or bi, or whatever. Oh, and an example of literal interpreters of the Bible: Those evangelists on TV. |

What happens after our bodies fail us? When we die? Do we still exist? I like to think that heaven is when our souls / minds are starved of flesh, when we sort of drift away. Hard to explain... Like comparing it to our house. We aren't our house ITSELF. We live in our house. House falls apart, we walk away. You know? I like to think there is a heaven because its the realm when we are free from physical pain and our skin; our own private prison, but still sort of in danger...from losing our minds... Hmmm, I tried to word that as best as I could. ![]() |
dirtyhippie Geek ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 466 | Lucifers Angel: Like I said not too long ago, I think I get that aspect of God, if HeSheIt exists. According to the Old Testament, God used to be very proactive, but now he's mellowed out. The point of God not interfering, as I see and understand it, is that it's OUR responsibility to clean up the messes that we, as a race, make. If God solved all our problems, we wouldn't want to do anything, would we? You get what I'm getting at? |
robotchicken. Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 8423 ![]() | I was watching a tv show on things of the Bible and such. And it says somewhere in there [ive forgotten] that God regrets making us because we dont understand and we just continue to make things worse. Or something of that nature. ![]() |
Uncle Fester Idiot ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 588 | i dont...i reakon everyone should believe what they want to. i do not believe in god. personally i think that cristianity is very hypocritical, cause like your not meant to kill but lots of people did in the crusades and such. and also that it says in the bible that if you dont sin you will go to heaven, if u do you go to hell but it also says that all humans are sinners...heaven must be pretty empty then |
Matt Smith Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 31134 ![]() ![]() | Uncle Fester: Crusades were not soley the pope sitting on his arse in the Vatican saying "Hey lads! Lets assemble an army and slay the filthy non-Christians!". The Crusades were not about the Church sanctioning mass killing just for the sake of it. In any war, there are two sides, and the Crusades were not fought soley for religion anyway. There were many reasons. Land, money, honour?. Sure, its common (and misguided) belief that the crusades were all about Church-encouraged killings, but the truth is, that like any war, there were a whole multitude of reasons. |

People Crusades mentioning that how could Church support murder, but that isnt the thing. Just like Bloodraine said, it was a war. Crusaders for example went into Zadar [Croatia] and stole and killed, but not in the name of religion, it was because Italy payed them. |
I Am So Beautiful! FUCK! Jackass ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 1019 ![]() | I believe in God. It's good to have something to believe in. I just don't believe in the Bible. As in, I don't believe you should live your life by a book like some religions do. |
dirtyhippie Geek ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 466 | I Am So Beautiful! FUCK!:But admit it: the Bible has a lot of neat ideas. Like not killing. Et cetera. |
worn-out astronaut. Had A Life Before GSB ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 28177 ![]() ![]() | I Am So Beautiful! FUCK!:As I was told in church, if you believe in God you must agree with everything in the Bible as well with everything that the Catholic Church says. If not you arent a member of the Catholic Church, there for you arent a true believer. But the thing is, they were doing a poll about this on TV, they asked people do they mind sex before marriage and people said no, but then they asked them if they are Catholics and they said yes. That makes them hypocrites in a way, but that means that only a few people [without nuns and priests] are true members of the Catholic Church. I am, for example an atheist. I do believe in God, but in the eyes of the Catholic Church I am an atheist. Is that right? I dont think they can judge my belief. |
Matt Smith Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 31134 ![]() ![]() | [Bittersweet] cant fail: I'm not so sure about that. If you believe in God, you aren't an Atheist. We don't believe in a God at all. You can believe in God and not be Christian, too. They aren't the only religion with a God. |
the_banana Geek ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 178 | I dont believe in god, because when i was about 5 I allways thought there would be a god and allways when i asked for something nothing came back and nothing happened....never! so...and i also dont have to believe in god, because i think i can manage my live without praying and thinking "somebody like a god may help you" so... |
dirtyhippie Geek ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 466 | Bloodraine: Like Hindus. Hinduism is actually hogging all the gods at the moment; we need to liberate some of them. Why not start your own religion, Bittersweet? Doesn't strike me that Catholicism is your beat, nor Christianity. Try an existing one or make up your own! It's neat. They'll call you a cult, but what is any religion but a massive, generally accepted, rich cult? |
worn-out astronaut. Had A Life Before GSB ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 28177 ![]() ![]() | dirtyhippie: @ Bloodraine - Yes I know what you mean, so that confuses me. What I was told in church it sounds like if you just believe in God and don't agree with what your religion has to say that you aren't a true believer. Then what are you then? And I am talking about Catholic Church. @dirtyhippie - I was thinking of doing something that in the future, I'm not afraid of my parents, my dad is an atheist and my mom thinks like me, but I don't know which one to choose. Its all so complicated. I think I am going to stay like this, it fits me and I don't care about others. As for the cult thing, I don't really like religious cults so I wont make one. |
BillieStoleMyVirginity Geek ![]() Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 359 ![]() | how the fuck could anyone possibly believ in a god? like, anyone who honestly belives in that shit must have no sense of individuality and just do what people tell them rather than think it over logically. the bible is a TERRIBLE influence on humanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
