I think we've now established the following.

a) The most popular Green Day song of all time is Good Riddance
b) The person who made the thread is an idiot for not mentioning Good Riddance OR Longview (i.e. the song that put Green Day on our radios).
c) How people mis-interpret the meaning of Good Riddance.

This thread needs to be locked tbh.

I had to go with Hitchin a Ride- I absolutely adore that song! But a close runner up is The Grouch- I switch back and forth between the two. But I also love Lettebomb.
How were any of those songs popular, excluding the first one? This isnt your favorite song thread, it's Green day's most poular.

Uumm.. I though Good Riddance was the most popular Green Day song..
Statistically, no. It earned them more respect than anything. Basketcase was the best selling single I believe and Minority climbed the charts the fastest Raspa

Yeah but care about statistics. The thread is about Green Day's most popular songs. OK, statistics come into play a bit, but popularity can also mean which songs people remember from a long time ago, which ones are still played on the radio, earning respect, etc. If you play on stats the whole time, then it changes because as you say, Basket Case was the best selling, Minority the fastest climbing, BOBD went straight in at number 2 in America, American Idiot straight in at number 3 here in the UK.

But going on other ways of stating popularity, it has to be Good Riddance. Where I live in England, it's normally played on local and sometimes national radio. As I am kind of the person who likes Green Day the most in my school (I'm not a teenie, I liked them way before AI), people always talk to me about Good Riddance. The song is also played at many other functions as people have posted about, eg proms, wedding dances etc.

Good Riddance has to be the most popular globally. It was used on the last episode of Seinfeld (I think - correct me if I am wrong Americans Smile) However, it may change in different countries. In the UK, I would probably have to go with a tie between BOBD and GR, after seeing it on BIAB it confirmed it for me. People don't know/remember songs like Brain Stew, Stuck With Me, and for some reason Longview. As Mike Dirnt says on BIAB, there are a lot of fans who don't know these songs. Kerrang! music channnel over here had a feature on "Green Day's Forgotten Gems", with stuff like Stuck With Me, Walking Contradiction, Waiting, Warning etc.

In conclusion, as I have stated before, it's Good Riddance globally.

I think it would be something from the American Idiot album because a lot of people would rather the new music and what's "in". Although I would prefer a mix of all the albums from before 2000.

Good Riddance. Though almost no one knows the meaning behind it, it's not supposed to be a sweet song or anything, but I'm not getting into that. Everyone remembers Good Riddance, weather they knew/liked Green Day then or not. /I/ even remember it.

Either Good Riddance or When I Come Around or Longview. Even though they only play that hip hop crap on the radio now, I've heard When I Come Around twice in the last week.
