Ol' Blue Eyes.:
It's great that you're so comfortable in your sexuality, but can't you even attempt to view the situation from another perspective? Imagine a child who'd been raised in an Amish society. Homosexuality wouldn't be an option for him or her, and if they had an opportunity to seek a "cure", then I'm sure they would. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I sympathize with anyone desperate enough to seek a "cure".
And please, spare me the "love is love" arguement. It's off base, entirely. Pedophiles love their victims. Rapists love their victims, in some cases. What about incestual relationships? Are you fine with those too? Please, if you insist on using some sort of catchphrase "Love has no gender" would probably be a better way to go.[/offtopic]
but, (this is rather literal) if an Amish child where to seek the cure, they couldn't get it in the first place because the Amish don't believe in the use of modern technology and live in their own communities, separate from the rest of society. The only way they could get it is if they left the community and in that case the "problem" would more or less be solved.
but aside form that, how could you be sure that the "cure" would even work, when we don't even understand how and why people are/become gay (then there's the whole Bisexuality issue on top of that as well.)
If it's a choice, then all they need to do is change their preferences( if they so chose.) But it's an internal, biologically or genetically controlled thing, then you have to find out what controls it and manipulate it. Which I'm sure such a procedure or pill would cost a lot of money, more then the average person has.
Omg @ the poem in your quote. Would I be correct in saying it was from Dulce et Decorum est? [/offtopic]
True, true. You're completely right. But Amish was the most devout type of religion I could think of.
And the creator of this thread never actually specified what type of cure this was. I was assuming it was sort of an intensive sort of counseling. But if you're correct and this "cure" is expensive, then it just intensifies my belief that whoever attempted to take part in it would really want it, and we should respect their choice.

Totally,
but with such a "cure," it may get to the point where Doctors and Physicolgist are prescribing it they do Ritalin-for even the smallest inclination of homosexuality.
Being bi/lesbian/gay does not mean you have a disease. It just means you are different. Since when did people call uniqueness and difference a disease and say there is a cure for it?
Nobodys the same. We are all different. Your sexuality is a huge part of your life, and if bi/gay/lesbian people choose those ways, let them. We shouldn't taunt them or tease them, and say they need a 'cure' and label their decisions and feelings a disease.
It pisses me off so much. I am bisexual myself, and hearing this really ticks me off. Love is love. You can't cure the way someone feels for another, and label their attraction a disease. It's who they are, it's what they want, let them be happy.
There is absolutly nothing wrong with being anything other than straight.

I'm fine with any form of love. Not rapist "loving" their victims or anything like that, but I'm fine with homosexuality, incestual, wide age difference, different religion, etc.
Amish people can look for a cure, but I just don't like using the term "cure". Like someone said, you get cures for something bad. Homosexuality isn't bad, in my opinion. If they want to look for a cure, go ahead. It's just wrong to me.
Homosexuality can also be proven to not be a choice (unlike what some people think) because of during pregnancy the levels of testosterone in the womb. Estrogen levels help in the development of sexual characteristics and protects female foetuses from the effects of androgens (masculinising chemicals) in the mother's system, sometimes the Estrogen levels are too high or too low, which could be an explination for not only Homosexual people, but also transgender and androgyny.
I wonder if this has already been said. It needs to be studied more to shut the type of people who make articles like that up. Science bless us.
Saying people can't change is just as bad as forcing them too [change]. I know people aren't saying it that literally; but to me is very much implied.

To me, this is an issue about a person's choice as to what sort of lifestyle they want. I'm totally fine with gay people, and homosexuality in general, but it's a very big choice as to whether or not you want to live as an openly homosexual person as opposed to what you've been raised to believe is normal. And almost every child grows up with fairy tales in which a princess is rescued by a handsome prince, etc. etc. The most easily accessible sitcoms feature married couples, or heterosexual lifestyles, and in many areas, homosexuality is not embraced as a valid choice. I can see why someone who'd been raised in that sort of enviroment might seek to "cure" what they think are "unnatural urges". I'm not saying that homosexuality is a disease, or needs to be cured, but I can see why someone would attempt to alleviate the desire, if acting on it would mean being ostracized by their family, friends and community.
Because you shouldn't try to change someone's sexuality. You shouldn't try to cure it. It's the way they are; their individuality. It's not like they are committing a serious crime (even though gay marriage is illegal some places) or something. I just feel that people will and will never accept homosexuality.

Yeah, people shouldn't try to change other peoples sexuality, but why is it wrong for someone to change their own? If that's what they want...

Killing Lies:
I think this would be a useful treatment for say, a devout catholic, where being a homosexual is a sin (I believe?)
If they believe that they will be condemned for their sexuality I'd see why they'd want to change it..
In the Catholic religion, they regard sex as the act of creating life, and seeing as no child would be produced from a homosexual union, it is seen as a perversion of god's will. It's not the homosexual attraction which they regard as a sin, it's the act of sex between two homosexuals that they consider sin.

Kurtni, you take the words right out of my mouth. It's downright scary sometimes.
