What's Wrong With Being So Well Liked?
Disclaimer: This blog is not directed at everyone or everyone who has ever complained about people who are popular. Do not take this personally. And of course not every popular person acts like this or wears what is mentioned. But I'm just using it as a most common stereotypical view of them in order to make a point. When I say “you” I don’t mean you. I’m just talking to mainly the people who have written these blogs. You know who you are. No need for names :]
I’ve seemed to read a lot of blogs hating the “popular” kids in there school. But I honestly don’t get it. Most of the points that GSBians make are things like they shop at Abercrombie and they are rich and they have sex all the time. Still…I don’t get it? Why hate them for that?
You hate them because they discriminate against you because you wear black and listen to MCR. Yet you are discriminating against them because they were pink and listen to 50 Cent. What’s the difference?
You don’t like them because you think they are bitches. They look down on you and now they are a bitch? You look down on them…aren’t you a bitch to? You are hating them fore the same things that they hate you for.
Guess what? I'm probably one of you sterotypical "popular" girls. The ones that you would seen on the film Mean Girls. I think Ambercrombie and Hollister have some very pretty clothes. I listen to Emniemn and enjoy him. I come off as stuck up to new people. I'm very well liked in my school. But you don't think that I have haters? You don't think that of course I go through drama just like you not-so-popular kids do? I spend hours getting ready, and yes my hair is a big deal. I might be a bitch...but its not because of these things.
Yes of course you aren’t going to love each and every one of them as a person. But have you ever gotten time to talk to those people you hate so much? You aren’t judging them based on them…just what you hear they do. Or what they think of you. Or what they wear. Or who they hang out with. That’s the same thing you complain about them doing to you…so you do it right back?
What’s wrong with being popular? What’s wrong with shopping at Hollister? What’s wrong with listening to Boys To Men? Lets take away all those things and look at these “nasty populars” as a person. You don’t know anything about them…and they don’t know anything about you. None of you have the right to hate each other.
Another point I’ve read people bring up is that they all act the same. They all dress the same. They all look the same ect. So…they all shop at American Eagle and have their hair the same way and seem like almost the same person…what’s the problem? Do you know how many times I’ve heard little 14 year old girls run around with their friends and call themselves emo?. They look the same. They both wear all black and listen to MCR. They just enjoy different things than these “dirty populars”. So what’s the problem.
These "populars" are popular for a reason. And if its the fact that you are just jealous...than thats fine. But don't blame them for discriminating you if you do the same thing back. A person is a person and should be judged that no matter if they are hated by everyone or loved by everyone. They are popular for a reason...just because you can't see it doesn't mean you have to go on and on about how much you dislike them.
No, being “punk”, or “scene”, or “emo” does not make you different. No, being a “jock” or a “prep” or a “nerd” does not make you different.
Personally, being “different” is so much of a trend now, everyone is to afraid to be themselves because being themselves might mean sharing some common interests even with these blasted “emos” or stuck up “preps.”
Being different is being yourself. Because no matter how hard someone tries...no one is the same. Period.
All opinions, arguments, agreements so on and so forth are welcomed :]

i do know them, i live in such a small town its hard not to. i understand that there are some nice people. i never said there weren't. i am saying, the ones i know are not nice. they have tormented me and others even outside my friend group. ever since i moved here i have seen them torture and manipulate others. i never said i disliked you, because you are right, i don't know you. all i was saying, once again, was i disagreed with what you said about how they deserve to be popular. if thats what you think about yourself, good. maybe you are an awesome person. but not everyone who is popular deserves it. i'm sorry if i offended you. if you read my first comment, i said this was a good blog. i agree with most everything you said. i was just pointing out ONE thing that i did not agree with. you said all opinions welcome, i gave mine.
to the last commenter, i agree with you. i guess they did do SOMETHING that landed them there, good or bad. my point was not all of them are saints.
suburban.zombie, January 13th, 2008 at 02:04:16am
In a sense, they DO deserve to be popular- they didn't just end up there, they did stuff that landed them there.
Miley Cyrus, January 12th, 2008 at 11:47:57pm
Do you know how people get popular?
By being friends and talking to quite a large variety of people. Mhmm. So just because they dislike your little group of friends doesn't mean that they are bad people
And I am highly offended. I will come right out and say it that I'm a popular person in my school. So you are telling me that I am liked for all the wrong reasons? You don't know me. So how can you make that assumtion?
Not all people are like that. Not all people are b*tches because they are popular. You don't know them so you should keep your mouth shut. And its not your right to say who should be popular and who shouldn't.
Jessie.Tastic!, January 12th, 2008 at 08:05:02pm
...i am saying that the "popular people" aren't popular with me and my friends. they are still popular in the school because they are always doing something crazy and they are all pretty and dress nicely...it wasn't a generalization, its what i've seen in the all of the schools i've been too...maybe your school is different, thats good. i'm just saying--They don't deserve to be popular any more than you or I---that was my point. i hate that the author tried to say that they deserve to be popular. i'm just saying that at MY school, they aren't some amazing people who deserve it.
suburban.zombie, January 12th, 2008 at 03:55:08pm
A. I never said anything about the popular people at my school. It isn't even like that at my school, to be honest.
And no, I didn't miss your point. You said:
"thing. first of all, i don't consider them popular. i don't envy them. the only reason they are "popular" is because they are the center of attention, not because they earned it. i take that back, they earned it. they earned it by being sl*ts. they earned it by cheating in class so they get straight As. they earned it by escaping rules because they are rich. they did not do anything special and i certainly don't respect them. i can't think of one person who isn't part of their clique who does. i'm sorry if this makes anyone mad, but THIS is the reason the uncool kids hate the populars. because you think you deserve to be popular. and BTW, i know MANY girls who are emo or goth who spend just as much time as you do on their hair. and it looks pretty awesome. "
And I responded to that saying that it was a complete generalization.
You're also constantly contradicting yourself by saying that the popular people aren't popular.
Miley Cyrus, January 12th, 2008 at 02:52:35pm
you missed my point. i said the blog was good, but i pointed out that the blogger said that "popular people are popular for a reason". like they deserve to be popular. and i was saying, yeah they are popular for the reason, but all of the wrong ones. maybe at your school you worship the popular people and maybe they all deserve it cause they are saints. but at my school, i dislike the popular people because they make fun of me and my friends. and they aren't really that popular since most everyone hates them.
suburban.zombie, January 12th, 2008 at 11:14:39am
reject08- I didn't know you posted on this blog so I responded on the other one, but now I can elaborate:
You just compltetely generalized. This whole blog was making the point that not every popular person is a b*tch. Since you clearly aren't friends with them, you really can't know much about who they really are, and just made very broad assumptions as if you do know.
Who knows, many of the popular people you know may be jerks, but you presume that they are everywhere. Newsflash- your little view of the world doesn't show everything that goes on in it.
Miley Cyrus, January 12th, 2008 at 10:28:07am
hmm...this blog is partly true from my experience. don't get all b*tchy at me for what i'm about to say, i'm not directing this toward anyone, just my opinion. first of all, i like this blog. it all comes down to cliques and how they function. populars and non populars battle because they hate each other. each other being the key phrase. i know they might point and laugh at me, but i laugh at them just as much.
one thing i disagree with in this blog is the "popular for a reason" thing. first of all, i don't consider them popular. i don't envy them. the only reason they are "popular" is because they are the center of attention, not because they earned it. i take that back, they earned it. they earned it by being sl*ts. they earned it by cheating in class so they get straight As. they earned it by escaping rules because they are rich. they did not do anything special and i certainly don't respect them. i can't think of one person who isn't part of their clique who does. i'm sorry if this makes anyone mad, but THIS is the reason the uncool kids hate the populars. because you think you deserve to be popular. and BTW, i know MANY girls who are emo or goth who spend just as much time as you do on their hair. and it looks pretty awesome.
all in all, good blog. don't take it personally but feel free to tell me why i'm wrong. you gave your opinion, i gave you mine.
suburban.zombie, January 10th, 2008 at 03:21:47pm
Well in case you didn't read the disclaimer, no i'm not wrong. Obviously this wasn't meant towards you...now was it?
Jessie.Tastic!, January 8th, 2008 at 09:04:39pm

eh wrong i hate them because just because i dress diffrently from them or act diffrent they stare or laugh or point at us i wanna go up to them slap em and say f*ck you what a dream :]
Ghoulina Nekroman, January 8th, 2008 at 08:28:31pm
If you dislike someone for them being b*tchy, or because they have done something to you or around you. Then I guess that's fine.
But if you hate them because they are popular, that sounds as if its a little bit of the green eyed monster.
People will be more known than others, whether it is because they are wearing the same clothes or because they are good inside.
schooldropout, January 8th, 2008 at 10:55:58am
Well, like I said. This isn't how all the populars are and of course it varies. This is just what I mostly read from GSBians. But thanks for everyones comments ^^
Jessie.Tastic!, January 8th, 2008 at 10:31:49am
Personally, I disagree slightly.
I don't hate people because they're popular.
I hate people because they're horrible people I don't happen to get along with, and that's just me.
My experiences with the 'populars' have been typical. I just don't agree with some of the stuff they do. I'm generalising, of course.
I go to a private school, where it's incredibly b*tchy. It might be different at your school, I don't know.
But in my opinion, a few of the popular people at my school are popular for all the wrong reasons. They're the ones who do outrageous things and get gossiped about. A lot of them don't want to try hard at school. They pick on the people who are 'less important' than them, or who excel in school.
They are, of course, exceptions to the rule. These are just my experiences.
I don't hate them all on principle.
This isn't directed at you personally, btw.
My experiences just vary greatly from what you've said. The people who have influence over lots of people in our year aren't always that pleasant to know.

I shop at Supre, & I'm popular at my school. Ftw. (:
I love Lose Yourself by Eminem. :cassie:
Goood blog.

I think you left somthing out on your disclaimer, "This blog is written for idiots"
I'm not directing this comment at you or anyone who's commented so far.
Popularity is what you make of it dimwits! I like to make everyone popular, and if everyone is popular, no one is. In my skool, I like to talk to all kinds of kids. The emos the preps and the gangsters (or as a friend of mine would rather me say "urban kids") They're all the same to me, some are stuck up sons of b*tches, some are downright unfriendly and some are prettty cool people. The only difference between the 3 groups is their intrests in style and music.
