Milton Keynes National Bowl - England, June 17th, 2005
Two words for you: Fucking Awesome!!! The best rock band in the world were fucking awesome! Like many others i arrived early, the bowl was packed full of people. People lying on the floor, eating, waiting for the best rock band to enter upon the stage! It was boliing hot which was odd as we are in England, but i wasnt complaining.
The first band on stage were Hard-fi as Simple plan had backed out. Let's just say they were definately NOT who the people had come for, at all!! After a painful 40 minutes or so of Hard fi's attempts to play White stripes Seventh nation army, and various other now ruined songs, it was time for Taking Back Sunday's turn. Thankfully, they were an improvement. Finally, it was Jimmy eat world. Out of all the support bands they were by far the best.
Greenday were soon to enter the stage, but not before a good old water fight. Or shall i say bottle fight! Loadsa people chucked their bottles and cups with some alcohol and water into the air, hitting people with a nice spray of liquid.
BUt then the time for the people every one was here for, the people who we had waited hours for, GREENDAY!! THe crowd roared with excitement as Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt appeared on stage, as burst in to American Idiot. They are fantastic! THe thousands of fans screaming and singing the loudest they could, as Billie Joe worked up the crowd. THe gig had it all, fire shooting up from the stage, fireworks, confetti, a list of old classics and rocking new songs, and of course one of the sexiest men alive on the front stage.
THey played through Basket Case, Longview, She, brainstew, Jaded, Jesus of Suburbia, Shout (!!), hitchin a ride, minority, holiday, maria, we are the waiting and a very entertaining King For A Day, where Billie Joe wore a crown and cloak!
AS it has become a kinda trade mark greenday play their version of Operation Ivy's knowledge, and stop half way threw. Billie Joe shouts to the audience, "we are gonna make a band right now!" picking three lucky peopl from the audience to pkay tre's drums, Mike's bass and billie joe's guitar!!! And then being able to keep his guitar... lucky guy!!
Billie Joe really knows how to get the crowd going, especially scream! He yelled:" I wanna hear you scream so every fucker can here you at that U2 concert tonight!" That definately made us scream! Also not forgetting the times when he got the crowd to repeat what he was saying:"awwwww.......awwww, awww..." and then stuffing his hand down his trousers. Sexy...
Billie Joe making teh audience even more excited, especially when he picked up a small boy from the audience and helped him spray the audience with a water gun. Then taking him to teh center stage, he let the boy have his turn in the lime light, encouraging teh audience to wave their hands in the air. I could have killed to be that lil boy!!
When the band went off the stage first time, i thought that can't be the end, as every one started chanting :"Greenday, greenday!!" When they re-entered a loud wave of cheering filled the bowl as they played through an amazing Boulevard of Broken Dreams, We are the Champions and Time of Your Life (every one sang along)!
The night finished with a bang, literally as fireworks when off, and Billie Joe yelling: "Thank you for coming out tonight!" Well Billie Joe, thank you for playing a fucking briliant concert, and im definaelty seeing them again live!
