Milton Keynes National Bowl - England, June 17th, 2005

I saw the boys on the Saturday with a friend's disabled son who had never been to a concert before. The disabled parking was right behind the stage and we found burnt out fireworks around the car when we went home!

Hard-Fi opened as Simple Plan had dropped out. They were ok, especially when the two front men nearly had a punch up! Taking back Sunday were brilliant but Jimmy Eat World were even better.....they really rock.

The day was one of the hottest of the summer - I burnt through clothes and factor 40 sun screen but it was worth it. The sun set behind the stage so it was hard to see them at first - we were about 50 yards form the stage, but next to a giant screen - I took lots of photos with my digital camera and some of them look like I was right next to them - wow, if only!

We are the Champions goes down brilliantly with British audiences and by the time they sung King for a Day the crowd was mental. It was the tracks that weren't from American Idiot that got the best reactions - Longview is my favourite - although Wake Me Up When September Ends had half the girls in tears - Billie Joe looked like he was close to crying too.

I saw Green Day in January at Brixton and BJ did Good Riddance with an acoustic, and that was magical. At Milton Keynes he chose to go electric, and although it was wonderful, I prefer the clarity and simplicity of the acoustic version. Not complaining though - after the concert I took nearly four hours to calm down enough to go to bed!

I booked (with my long-suffering husband) to see them in Paris but it was postponed. I went to the BBC on Sunday 6th November to watch through the fence as they rehearsed their live performance on Top of the Pops and was delighted to be invited in by the producer of the show. About 300 of us enjoyed a 60 -80 minute outdoor concert after the live broadcast and I managed to get to the front of the crowd - a crowd of 300 is much nicer than 65,000! Wow!
