Garrett Hanlund This Board Is My Home ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 30801 ![]() ![]() | spill_no_sick:I'll agree that the age the program is meant for is insane, but I'm not sure where the propaganda comes in there. Every school/town has different teachers and tactics, so there's a big chance I was taught differently than everyone else. Then again, I'm stupid so meh. |
Utterly Tragic Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 97 | I do believe that DARE is useful for staying Drug free. I mean, in DARE they've mentioned about what chemicals are in Drugs and all that and man I definitly wanna stay away from those things. In fact, I was one out of 8 of all the grade 6's this year that the officers thought were the best essays and I got to read mine. I'm quite proud of that. =] |
Macfadyen Basket Case ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 16175 | I think DARE strengthens a person's individual beliefs. You can't say that DARE doesn't help anyone, or that it helps everyone, stay away from drugs. There are a bunch of kids who learned to stay away from drugs because of DARE. There are a bunch of kids who were encouraged to do drugs because of DARE. And there are a bunch of kids who it didn't affect at all, because they chose not to listen. I think it depends on the person entirely. But I think the people who do learn to stay away because of DARE would've learned to stay away anyways. I always thought it was a really pointless class. |

TragicCaseofMyReality King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 2350 | dance hall drug.: I don't think its all that helpful... I mean I still go to school with a lot of the kids that I went through the DARE program with and I hear them talking about getting smashed and high all the time. I don't do drugs but it wasn't because the DARE officer told me not to. It was and is my choice not to, and really in the end thats what it comes down to. |
Brian May King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 2090 | ummm.... ive done that D.A.R.E programm twice.. One time in 5th grade and the other one in 7th. ummm....it didnt actually teached me somthing really. I didnt need 2 do D.A.R.E 2 know that drugs were not the answer 2 my problems |
nimrodidiot Jackass ![]() Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 1747 ![]() | D.A.R.E. just puts out facts so kids know the affects of drugs and alcohol. Besides that, I don't think it works at all. More than half of the kids at my school do drugs or drink. |
Ol' Blue Eyes. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 4816 ![]() | Completely failed many people I know. And I know that if I hadn't been so dead set against taking any sort of drug and actually wanted to try them, the DARE program wouldn't have done anything to change my mind. |
Ol' Blue Eyes. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 4816 ![]() | xXxAndreaIsCoolxXx:I think it's completely ineffective. All I remember of it was completely unrealistic cartoons, and foolishness about alcohol, but none it actually made an impact. I remember reading an interview with Stephen Tyler and he said something to the effect of, I don't want to preach to these kids not to do drugs, because I heard all of that before and it didn't make a difference to me. What I would do is to make a video of myself, needle in my arm, having a seizure, jerking and screaming with someone's wallet in my mouth to keep me from biting off my tongue. I'd show them the reality of drug use." And in my opinion, that was what DARE never did for me. It never really showed the consequences. Sure, it talked about them vaguely, but never really flatout said, THIS is what will happen if you start... |
