Your religious and political beliefs....were they influenced by your parents, the media or personal choice.

Aww, that's not a fair question.
You make me look like a wimp when I say that it was my parents who influenced a few of my beliefs. Well, actually one. I'm a christian.

But here's a funny story: My dad is probably the biggest Republican I know...ever since he's been a parent he's been teaching his kids that "Republicans=Good....Democrats+African Americans=Baaaad"
Yeah, he's also racist...
But the funny thing is that my sister Rebekka is a hippie and a huge liberal. My sister Sara is in a very serious relationship with a guy named Aaron who's an african american. Beth, my youngest sister, voted for Kerry in the last Election.
Anyway, I'm not a Republican either, nor a Democrat. I agree and disagree with both sides...I suppose I'm a party of my own.

I made up my own mind. I suppose I can say my parents influenced me in the sense that I see how close minded they are and how much they hate gay people and how... republican they are... I could see through them that it wasn't something I wanted. And I guess my political views fall mostly into the liberal category. And I'm not religious, although I was raised by Christians.

My religous beliefs are based on my parents. We've never done anything religous, so I'm an atheist.
Political beliefs are my own, but I'm sure the media has influenced me in some ways.

Everyone important in your life influences you and the choices you make. It's basic human nature. Your best friend will influence you(and you will influence them), your parents will influence you, your siblings, your teachers, etc...,
But in the end, your overrall beliefs should be your own choice. Mine are. It's impossible to make such huge decisions without being influenced by huge influences in your life. Wether it be watching someone die from smoking related illnesses and being anti-smoking, or seeing how close-minded someone is and refusing to be like that, or having someone you admire greatly be a certian religion and you take special interest in that.
Anyone who says their political and religious beliefs have nothing to do with anyone else, is lying. Everyone is influenced by at least one other person on the planet. Even if you don't realise it.

That's another thing I forgot to mention. Media influences everyone who watches TV, watches movies, listens to the radio, or reads any religious or political books. Even if it's subconsciously. Look at all the people who got so into politics(some better than others, lol)after American Idiot and Mosh started getting big radio play.

Well that's obvious. But the question is if you differ with your parents, or if you go along with your parents or family because it's what you've grown up with, or if you agree with your parents, not just because it's what you grew up with, but it's what you really believe.

According to the original question of the thread, the thread is asking wether or not you made all of your decisions on your own or if your parents and the media have an affect on it.
I'm just posting what I feel about the topic.

I...haven't thought about it.

Political: Well, my family has always been with the ALP, but I didn't really care, then I saw the Mark Latham (the guy who was running for the last election) and I just agreed with what he was saying, so I decided I was with the ALP as well. But I guess it'll change by the next election, it just depends who's policies I agree with, I'm not going to restrict myself to one side.

Religious: My mother is a hardcore Orthadox, I used to go to church ever week and everything, but over the last couple years I haven't really comitted myself to anything, I'm not 100% sure where I'm at yet. I guess that means she has influenced me, a least a bit.

Politically, I think the same as my parents. But, even if they did think differently, I would still think how I do now.
My mum is Catholic, I'm not. My dad believes in God, but not in organised religion [so he doesn't go to chuch, basically]. I'm agnostic, so I haven't made up my mind about that yet. I think the fact that I don't want to go to church with my mum upsets her a little, but she accepts that it is my own personal beliefs.

My own choice, I've always been given the option for my beliefs, religion has never ever been forced in my face therefore I had the choice.
