I personally avoid giving my OCs or any characters, for that matter, characteristics I wished I had, because then I boarderline or go beyond Mary Sue or Mary Stu. Then I get pissed at myself.
When I'm working with a real person like Adrienne or someone, I give them characteristics I think they would have just but interviews, comments, pictures, thoughts of my own, etc. I think it's worked well so far, but that's just my opinion. That's all we can do as observers of these real life people we never get to spend any time with. The fact that you observe so closely by using different sources of information proves you're a good writer. Anyone else whom does their homework on the subject they're writing about is also on the paved road to becoming an excellent author.
Well thank you. I like to think that there are more categories to characters and people than 'sex god' and 'bitch.' You know what I'm saying? I can easily go overboard when I go into territory I'm not at least 75% familiar with. . . . . and then I get pissed at myself.
Like I said either here or in another thread, the new story I'm writing right now are literate pages of my own life. Situations that I went through are evident in the text. The players and scenes are different and some stuff is toned down and some exaggerated but it's there. |

That's usually what I do. I've even stopped writing full blown 'sex scenes' because I haven't got experience in it to write stuff like that. I know what you mean about thirteen year olds trying to write sex scenes and intamacy between two 30 year olds i see alot of it.
It's not just sex as well i see alot of other stuff that people try to write about that they haven't got ANY experience or knowledge in what so ever even if it's like, being drunk, or taking drugs. It's like i wouldn't go into full detail about someone taking herion because i have no idea what it's like. |

I can't write sex scenes at all lol.I just do my best .
I try. Sometimes I leave off the deed and only write to build it up.

| July 30th, 2006 at 03:33pm The trendy trend that I used to find really annoying but I've begun to do it myself just for the hell of it and see if it actually works is pork-barrelling your own stories. You got the threads, the avatars, the mentions in your cliques signatures (Which I'm just leaving to them, not me). There's nothing wrong with it! This is just the main place in the world that I've noticed this. |

They all bloom into the same beginning and wilt into the same ending. Not exactly the same ending, just the idea and the fantasy ending, like Cinderella. I don't expect people to be absolutely wonderful. I mean, some of us just aren't good at writing and some of us are, and it doesn't hurt to try..

| August 1st, 2006 at 05:25am I just write about what I know, you can't go wrong there. What's the point of writing a huge sex scene when you don't know much about it, it just ends up crappy and then spoils the story. Imagining what happens is miles better...... *imagines*
This puts me off reading some of the stories and lots of stories I only end up reading the first page and thats it... i'm outta there. |
