| Dehren McGhengland Rotting On Here  Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 49206 | mmk i know i'm ~canadian~ and whatnot, but i've been getting into this presidential election for a while. but to help make things more clear to me, can someone please explain to me some stuff? first off; idg how a candidate "wins" over a state. i know it's like a majority vote thing, but does it ultimately decide who wins election? is their another process afterwards or what? second; i'm more-so on the fence for barack to win. i agree with a few of you that some/most of hillary's views are skewed and that she's only giving people what they want to hear. but, uhh, i came across this just a few minutes ago. ...anyone care to verifty or deny if any these things are true?  |

How it works is that each state has been assigned a certain number of "electoral votes" based on the population of that state. All of that state's electoral votes are awarded to the candidate that wins the majority vote in that state. I think there's also something to do with different counties in each state. But I haven't looked into it. I think the whole process is bullshit and needs to stop. The president should be chosen only by popular vote. And all that stuff about Obama.. I didn't read through the whole list but everything they're bringing up in the beginning seems so trivial. They called him out on understanding what it's like to be an "African American" when he would actually be classified as an "Arab American"..? People misuse "African American" all the time. It seems to be more p/c than saying "black", I guess? I don't know, it's stupid, but people usually say "African American" instead of black. And he is part African. Also, they call him out on a lot of comments made about his family and his upbringing. He mentioned that his family having strong ties to African Freedom. And they mention ONE family member that wasn't. =/ That doesn't mean his whole family is like that. I would rather have someone who lies a little bit about their upbringing in order to get people to identify with them instead of a guy who wants to stay in a war that shouldn't have started until he can "figure out what the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite is". I mean, they're both politicians, they're both sleazy, but the whole thing is pretty much about choosing the lesser of two evils. Damn the two-party system and the electoral college. |
