MAD CUNT Basket Case ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 19801 ![]() | I don't understand people who have a problem with swear words being used. They're just words, and because the taboo is abstract, the more they're used the less they mean. Essentially, if you dislike swearing, the best thing people can do is swear all the time because the more society becomes desensitised to it, the more apparent it is that swear words really don't mean anything and it's just the connotations they hold that render them taboo. The whole linguistic theory of Derridan poststructuralism is based on the concept that words have no set meaning, and I think it was De Saussure who said that words are defined by opposition to other words rather than because the word itself has some inherent relation to the thing it signifies. Like, a cat is a cat because it is not a dog. Looks like I learned something last year after all then... ![]() |

Anyways, back on topic... you know who else uses a lot of swearing in music? Rock artists. Let's take Green Day for example. They sing 'shit', 'fuck' and 'fag' countless times throughout their albums. Do you think it's offensive? |

It's more of the attitude rappers seem to have towards women, for example. This new rapper in Denmark just made a song where the chorus is "I didn't make money, i did ladies" like he's cool because he slept with women and doesn't really care about them - it's not about them, it's about how he's seen by other people for being able to get with these people. and the swearing just contributes, because it's not "i fucking did that" or "i'm fucking sick of -whatever-" it's "i fucked her" or something, at least that's the stereotype, i think. I know there are many kinds of rap/hip hop and not all of it is misogynist or ignorant, but that stuff sells. |
Eau Du Robinet King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 24 Gender: Female Posts: 2541 | Swearing sounds bad in any genre of music... i like it when Linkin Park raps...i usually dont like rap cuz my mom hates it and never likes it when i listen to it cuz she says "Rap is a bunch of screaming and yelling and talking about f*cking hoes and b*tches and sh*t like tht!" every now and then i go to parties and they usually play rap and i like to listen to it. (unless its u'kno inapproriate) i believe tht if LP was a rap band, theyll go far... but of course, they chose rock! i prefer rock oVer rap tho... im not hating on rap, its alright, but i choose rock... rock is more....ummmm.... original?! |
