I read and write fanfiction and yes, smut included... but even smut can be well written I mean one green day fanfic I read made me so glad I have a fairly high IQ as the amount of brilliant grammatical devices and variety of words used was astonishing! So yeah, I think as long as they're well written taking consideration of the nature and behavior of the characters/people rather than saying things like "'I dont really like adrienne cos she sucks and not good but i really loves you gerard with your natural blone hair and purple eyes' said Billy" now I just made that up as an exaggeration (though I have come across similer...) but then again I have also read fanfics in which Billie Joe does break up with Adrienne that have dealt with it in a responsible and sensible manner, I mean yes I would find it a bit disturbing that people were thinking about me splitting with my partner (if I had one) or whatever but still... then most peple have the sense to know that its never gonna happen and that it is PURE FICTION when it does.
Slander is really up to the intent and kind of statement made combined, so if you were stating a rumor as if it was true with no kind of disclamer for example;
"Billie Joe has dumped his wife to elope with his bassist" as a fact would be bad however;
"Disclamer: I do not own the characters within this story, no profit is made, as far as I am aware it is pure fiction and I apologise for any offence that may be caused." and then going on to talk about Billie Joe getting with Mike would be at best acceptable.
but really if you dont like, dont read, freedom of choice and all that.

oooh and Nikki-Inkz if you like Doctor Who go to the entertainment section and look for the Doctor Who thread.

I don't think disclaimers are necessary, even for slash. Because if you're reading a story, you should be aware that it is fiction, not reality. How would some person on the internet know the exact conversation that happened between Billie and Mike anyway?

On the fanfiction site I frequent, there are actually a list of authors and various others who would rather not be the subjects of fanfics, and the site refuses to post any fics concerning said people. This may not be on every site, and it doesn't mean that the people can't just post elsewhere, but at least it acknowledges their wishes.

Also, fanfiction. The name is suggestion enough that whatever story follows wouldn't be entirely true.

Im surprised none of younger celebrities parents have pushed some fanfiction as child pornography. Miley Cyrus is a minor and slash is written about her, that is illegal, fiction or not.

Agreed. Two consenting adults is one thing but yeah... (though I have kinda read some Billie/Mike aged like maybe not quite 18 but then not not 18 so yeahhh, and i think things like mary-kate and ashley goes with that as well as from what ive seen (not read, seen disclamers for) its incest child pornography... Mary-Kate and Ashley are of legal age.
I don't see how they could press against child pornography.

I remember writing slash once and I kept going and going. It was so gross to me. I love reading slash fiction. It's really what the author puts into it.

I think slash fictions can be okay but when they get to the point of meaningless sex in every chapter it's annoying.

I agree, because then it loses the lust and stuff it could have if it happened a couple times.
I mean, there are only so many words you could use for...things.

I read it. I write it. I RP it.

Granted, it took me awhile to get used to the idea, but once I did I was hooked...

Unless it's just pointless smut. That annoys meh.

But I love the good stuff. I like how you really have to understand the characters and their personalities and motives in order to make it right, a bit more so than het. What circumstances would cause Paul McCartney to fall for John Lennon and whatnot [Beatles slash, I know...I was extremely freaked out when I first discovered it, but also oddly fascinated...read some really kickass stories and here I am. Attack me for it if you like, I don't care. Gonna happen eventually].

So yeah...I'm all for it, obv.

I read it, write it, love it. I really think people make way too big a deal out of it. I know it's all made up and means no harm, and so does anybody with any common sense. In every fandom there's going to be really awful fic or pointless stuff that's just porn - you just have to know how to navigate around it. There are some really incredible writers out there who just happen to be writing about real people who already exist. I really don't think it's a big deal, and as somebody said above, if you don't like it, don't read it.

it's mostly the characters that are written about, and the trio from hogwarts aren't eighteen yet in the stories either. plus not all of it includes sex, so it's not child pornography.
but actually thinking about it most of the fanfiction written is about characters who are under eighteen.

i dunno, i think they're characters and if a certain person doesn't wish for it to be written about them, then that wish should be respected. and i'm sure disney and so on is aware of this sort of thing as it is rather popular and it's their job to be aware, so i think if it was an issue for them, they'd press it.

That's quite easy for you to say- no one has written explicit, sexual stories about you.

But I don't know that I'd be particularly offended if they did. I mean, it would obviously be quite weird to come across such a thing, but as long as there was a clear disclaimer that it was all made up and no harm was meant, I really don't see that it's a major problem unless a person has specifically asked that nothing be written about them (or their characters.)
