 | January 14th, 2007 at 05:01am tyco:Another example of the Bible's scientific foolishness is the claim made in 2 Peter 3:5 that the earth was made out of water!
The Bible arrogantly describes man as a special creation of God, qualitatively different from any other life form. However, modern science has proved that genetically we are 98% similar to apes - we are only separated by a 2% genetic difference.
is god a male or female?? why is he portrayed as a man?
also ask them whats it means to be a cristian? (dont settle with your blessed with knowing god loves you bull!)
another question who could read that crap anyways... i had to leave my RE lessons cause i literally pissed myself on some of the stuff that was in there lol
So yes Genetically we have been proven to be close to apes however god created us differently from other life forms by giving us free will, increased intelligence and the ability to act on moral. so maybe it's that 2 percent that counts.
is god a male or female?? why is he portrayed as a man?
The bible was written in a patriachal society and the writers of the bible were man. Thats the only reason god is protrayed as a male figure.
Being a christian means being a good person and having faith that there is a higher ground of existance than this one. personally i find people who are so adament that there isn't a god and so ignorant that they treat believers as idiots to be concieted narsicist who don't want to believe because it would mean thinking someone else is of higher authority than them. but i'm not one to name names

You ignore the points because it works as a direct contrast to what you believe and believe me that it not taking on what someone is trying to explain to you

Notice that those are theroies, not facts.
That math doesn't even make sense. It isnt a one in 2 thing that god exists... take into account all the different religions, some believe in multiple gods, some dont believe in any supreme ruling god, ect. I think the point is, is that there either is or isn't a supreme force, higher being, God if you will, gods even, etc. There is no maybe, or perhaps. |

Firstly, that's such a contradiction. You believe people should believe what they want, then you go on to say that about organised religion?
Secondly, I've been brought up be two people who are very religious. Never, at one point in my life, has the church tried to get our money. Infact, the church my parents go to, and the catholic ounes around near I live are very very poor, and they rely on donations from people. Donations. They are not in any way made to give up their money, they do it because they love their faith and they want the church to be able to continue.
Thirdly, in Australia, anyways, it's only the prominant people in the church that discriminate because of religion. People like the archbishop, who in no way represents what most people think.
tyco:Another example of the Bible's scientific foolishness is the claim made in 2 Peter 3:5 that the earth was made out of water!
The earth's surface (surface only or the whole earth? idk) is 80% water.
Aside from that, please come up with intelligent debates. He doesn't stop all the fighting and war and bad in the world because humans have to be reponsible for what happens. We have to make our own mistakes.
The bible has contradictions because it wasn't written by god, but many many people at different points in time. Of course there are going to be contradictions. If you and 3 other people tried to write down the same event, 30, 40, 50 years later, of course there would be contradictions, and different recounts of the same event. For example, the gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John were written decades apart. Mark was written first, I think, and then Matthew and Luke around the same time, then finially john. They all used different sources and documents to help them write. It's going to be different.
Now this is all coming from an unbiased point of view. I don't follow the catholic church, or God at all, but instead I'm educated on it. If you're going to question the church or god, please educate yourself on it first.
Quote5. yes! Free will something god apparently blessed me with dont judge me for it! and i loved RE seriously i actually did.. andi got a C too.. which was shocking.
Well it's no surprise you got a C. I got an A in religion, with no work whatsoever. Why? Because I don't let my disagreeements with the church blind me. I listen in religion. I think to be able to debate against something, you should know all you can about it.
And don't tell people to shut up and get over themselves. Thats getting beyond debating. |

There is almost no difference in terms of beliefs between Buddism (For what I know, Thai Buddism, anyway.) and Christianity. Enlightenment is Heaven. |

Okay My question is 'Why Don't You Believe In God?'
My reason is for asking is. I don't. But my friend drags me to church or youth group every so often. Everyone there thinks I do believe in God. Tonight she dragged me there for the first time in 5 months. The youth pastor was talking about future youth nights and what we would discuss. One topic caught my attention. We're gonna talk about doubts & creationism vs. evolution. They're gonna give us a piece of paper and we can ask whatever and they should be able to come up with an answer supporting Christianity. But I wanna give them a question that they can't answer. So that's where I want yall to help me. I only have a few questions I can think of. And anymore would be helpful so yeah, Type away.
My Questions/Statements.
1.] How can you trust the bible if it's written by man who are sinners?
2.] Christians are told they have free will. 'Do what I say or die and burn in hell.' That doesn't sound like free will to me.
3.] If Christians are supposed to love eachother as thy selves or whatever. How come they always discriminate other religions and homosexuals? That's not very loving.
That's all I can think of.
1/ Everyone is a sinner. That is why Jesus was sent down, to die for our sins. There is no one but Jesus who is so pure as to not sin.
2/ Who says 'Do what I say or die and burn in hell' ?
3/ They, as in we, discriminate against other religions because, God is the only God. And against homosexauls because it is written in the Bible that that is a sin. Though I'm pretty sure, most Christians, well most I know at least anyway don't have a problem with Homosexuals.
But why set out, and go to this length, to try and 'disprove' God? People will always have the answers for you. |

ok fair enough but i meant that people should be allowed to believe what they want instead of having to follow their family tradition.
and organised religion is stupid. how is that a contradiction |

 | January 15th, 2007 at 02:57am good questions. i am atheist. well, you should ask them how can they prove that god exists?, not wiyh words, books or anything. materially practically prove it. hmm...maybe ask them to try and prove that jesus existed with some tooth fragment or dna or somehting...though that wouldnt make me believe...oh yeah, ask em how they know that jesus was god's son?
btw. i read some leaflet or somethin which contained a wish for teenagers to cometo the church in my school and well, i was disgusted by it...christianity has nothing to offer to me |
