i dissagreed that they where very simular i think they are simular but they have a lot of differences.
Not really. When the Bible is read metaphorically, as I'm sure it was meant, they are really similar. The symbolism that appears in both is uncannily similar. The Middle Way appears in biblical texts sometimes. The Japanese even called Buddha the same name as Christians used to call God.

well from what i know from both.. they are quite different..

In religion class we have studied how some people get religion wrong. One of the examples were that people are very afraid of God and then they turn into religion maniacs. And yes, that is very disturbing, I pray to God to thank him not because I am afraid of him. Some people pray to God cause they think that if they made a sin a lighting is gonna strike them or something. The worse thing is that it was mentiond in religion class that we werent suppose to be afraid of God, but then again we were taught that we have to. I remember when we studied about sex before marriage and similar and we got a paper with all the sins and in the end it says that when you have sex before marriage, when you masutrbate, watch porn movies, cheat on your wifes/husbands, are gay, use contraception, then if you get pregnant and get an abortion or if you get AIDS, thats a punishment from God.

I used to be an active believer in God.
my family was too.

but it just takes the wrong people to make you think twice if the religion you wanted to have for the rest of your life was really what it's said to be.

Don't judge
Don't discriminate
Treat others how you'd like to be treated etc.

when you look past the smiles
the hugs
the "how are you today's?"

it's all lies really. A great facade concerning the fanatics. They glare at you if you miss a meeting. They call you 3 times a day only to bible-bash you.
they tell you to speak english when my sister talks to my mom in spanish.

how can they call themselves 'people of God'?

Im not saying God doesn't exist or religion is fucked up.

Im just saying that one experience has changed my opinion for eternity.

i dont believe in god because i believe in science
there are just too many logical, scientific explenations for all the stuff in the torah/bible whatever

To me it just seems like religion was a good way of controlling the population thousands of years ago when people didnt have science to explain things

It still controls people, even now that we have science. I don't have a religion, but science can't explain everything right now either. Both have flaws.

I wanted to type something about this before I saw your post.
I think people don't believe in God anymore now because science is developing very fast and since God's existence can't be scientifically prooved, they get confused and tend not to believe since almost everything is nowadays based on science.

My mum and my brother are both christian I am not. Because, quite honestly, human beings are the shittest thing you could create and I just can't make a commitment to a guy who can't keep something that is, apparently ,smaller and weaker than him under control. I go to church every sunday and we have a fun and enjoyable sunday school type thing because the answers to most of the questions are: 3, 40, 7, Jesus or God. We also get fed and the other kids there don't actually pray in the sanctuary thing when we are in the services.

I don't believe in God because I can't put faith in something so flawed and unreliable.

The Bible says that God loves everyone, and hates to see anyone suffer, yet there is massive genocide in Sudan, people starving all over Africa, Iraq is a huge mess, people are homeless, people are dying of cancer...

And no heavenly help comes.

JESSY NIGHTMARE:

My Questions/Statements.
1.] How can you trust the bible if it's written by man who are sinners?
2.] Christians are told they have free will. 'Do what I say or die and burn in hell.' That doesn't sound like free will to me.
3.] If Christians are supposed to love eachother as thy selves or whatever. How come they always discriminate other religions and homosexuals? That's not very loving.

That's all I can think of.

1. How can you trust a book written by men, period? Especially considering that men are fallible and that they could be lying.
2. Christians do have free will... that is why there are so many protestant churches. Many of which do not say, 'Do what I say or die and burn in hell.'
3. Not all Christians are discriminative of other religions/sexes, etc. Those that are doing that, are not really Christian and are a part of some cult by my book. The bible does say to beware of "false prophets"... but then who are we to know who these "false prophets" are? It also says "lean not unto thine own understanding.": Once again... I myself could be wrong in my assessment of what true "Christianity" is. The so-called wiccans say to do as you will without harming others. Some people believe that all forms of life have spirits. What it comes down to is this:

Your relationship with God is between you and God. Screw what other people have going on.

And here's a secret...

If you want life... CHOOSE LIFE!

I'm not talking about abortion here because sometimes abortion is choosing life in circumstances such as a fillopean (sp?) pregnancy.

You have free will to make your decisions. There are consequences for what you choose to do. But you do have the choice. You are physically and mentally able to make the decisions.

3.] If Christians are supposed to love eachother as thy selves or whatever. How come they always discriminate other religions and homosexuals? That's not very loving.
Those aren't all Christians. Those are hypo-Christians. AKA, the bad kind of Christians. They make all Christians look bad. Where I came from, this was 98% of the Christians in my hometown [which is in the Bible Belt].
But good Christians don't act that way.

Is anyone familier with Friedrich Nietzsche's views on religion; particularly Christianity? I find them very ...fitting (for lack of a better word)

His main concern with Christianity was that it was dehumanising - because God is so wonderful and perfect in every way, it naturally follows that humans should consider themselves lowly, imperfect and sinful.
He believed that religion developed as a result of primitive societies in which people, frightened by the world around them, created Gods as a way of controlling nature and their own destinies.

Nietzsche also saw logic in the fact that Christianity originated among the slaves of the Roman empire. He argued that because the slaves could not physically free themselves or gain revenge on their masters; they used religion as a form of spiritual liberation. Basically, their beliefs allowed them to assume a higher spiritual status over their captives and demonstates another theory of Nietzsche's - the Will to Power.

Sorry about the long rant, but that kinda summarises my views on religion: it was created centuries ago as a sort of 'comfort blanket' for people. The promise of a glorious afterlife kept them meek and under control , which allowed the church to grow powerful.
To put in crudely, I have this feeling that practising a religion gives people an ego-boost; a feeling of 'I'm better than these sinful people who don't believe'. At least that's the impression I get from most of the religious people I know -_-

What a ridiculous thing to say. You can believe in evolution and the Bible. That's science. The Bible never says that evolution does not exist. Science and the Bible co-exist in almost perfect harmony. For everything the Bible can't explain, science explains it. For everything science cannot explain, the Bible does.
