They brought punk back into main stream TWICE in 1994 with Dookie and again in 2004 with American Idiot. I don't think any band will ever come close to doing what GD has done. They are the godfathers of modern punk and they have changed the face of rock music. No one can take over for GD, because no band will ever come close to what they have done. |

I think that with two stellar albums under their belt, they're not really a trendy band anymore, they're a classic rock band, like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and even Nirvana. If you look at a band like the Beatles, they started out as a trend with a poppy, less serious album (compare Please Please Me to Dookie) and towards the end of their career they rolled out an ambitious, true rock album (compare Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to American Idiot). That's what makes a classic rock band. No band ever "proceeded" the Beatles. |

AI is not a ground breaking , artist have been doing poltical stuff before them , other bands have had the same type of success , look at the friggin backstreet boys or any pop band of that matter in the later 90's they were HUGE those artist have had cds gone diamond (and not over a 10 year period of time) |
