To believe that because he's a reverand they wouldn't discuss anything other than religion is a little naive, I'm a surfer but i don't only talk about rip curls. And seeing as America is one of the most religion orientated governments on that planet its even more disturbing that this guy is so close to Obama.

Once again i'm not anti-Obama, i don't see him as agreeing with this pastor i just think that him not cutting ties with this man shows a severe lack of common sense.

His role to Obama is to be a reverend. He was in Obama's religious circle which is about praying I assume, otherwise he's be on his advisory council which he is not. I don't understand why it's "disturbing" that the pastor is close to Obama. He has his [negative] views on politics and America, but it's clear that Obama doesn't share the same views [he sure isn't damning America].

I agree with Obama's metaphor about the reverend being an uncle who says things that he may not agree with, but he's part of the family. He's known the man for a long time and he even married the Obamas, I don't see how he can cut all ties with him. He's cut off the ties politically, but the rev. is still part of his life as a friend at least.

And news broke today that it was one of McCain's aids that released the rev's sermons online and has since been suspended. Obama's poll numbers has actually dropped since the reverend incident, so now that it's known that this was McCain's campaign's doing, will the people be forgiving?

Also, why is McCain so intent on saying Al Qaeda is being trained in Iran instead of 'extremists'? Age is not an issue?

ok you know what pissed me off? Obamas pastor says something offensive and everyone spazzes out and acts like Obama was the one who said it. Like the media just won't shut up. Conservatives have pastors that say nutty things too, some have made very intolerant comments but you dont see the media freaking out on that! If the media was as liberal as everyone says it is they whouldn't be making such a big deal about it. I mean everyone has someone in their community that has belefs that that they don't agree with. Obama had no influence with what his pastor said so I don't get why it's such a big deal.

How do you know what Conservative pastors are saying? Obviously, they don't say anything too extreme or it would be in the news. I know you said about the media "not" being as Liberal as people say, but the only news station that isn't Liberal, is Fox News. Plus, it's a Democrat's turn to take some heat from the media. It seems like when a Democrat does something wrong people brush it off like it's not a big deal. But when a Republican does something wrong, everyone makes a big deal about it. Also, why did Obama stay at the church for 20 years if his pastor was saying shit like that? I think the only good thing Obama can do now, is leave that church. It makes him look bad staying there. If my priest said stuff like that I'd leave in a heartbeat.

His comments were all provoked with discussions about Hillary Clinton... so seeing as how she hasn't ran for president for the past 20 years I doubt he was making comments of the same nature to such an extreme.

Not only do the conservitive pastors say offensive stuff but the politicians say them themself. An Oklahoma senator said that gays are worse then terrorists a few weeks ago, but that wasn't the only thing on the news for two weeks! Or the former Senator Rick Santorum compared homosexuality to incest. They said that themselfs and they still didn't get as much bullshit as obama is getting. Also maybe Obama isn't leaving the church beacuase he has been going there for 20 years and he is part of the community and the people there are important to him. You can't just leave a place everytime someone says something you disagree with.

McCain is running for Bush's third term. Everyone's heard about this claim from pundits and other tv personalities. But to hear it from another candidate? I don't know if Obama has used it previously, but I find this shot quite cheap and below the belt. It's almost immature on many levels. Anyone else agree or am I on defensive mode for McCain?

Obama a distant cousin of Bush, Cheney and others. - BBC News

Also, the article states Hillary Clinton 'distant cousins include the singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morisette, as well as the beatnik author Jack Kerouac and Prince Charles's wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.'

Just thought that was quite interesting.
Looks to me like it doesn't matter who you vote for, unless they have the right geneology they're not getting into power. Which is probably why McCain, Hillary and Obama are the three main players.

Yeah, I heard Clinton is distantly related to Angelina Jolie and Obama is distantly related (ninth cousin) to Brad Pitt. Lol. Election-mania in America is truely in full swing if people are digging this deep.

Yeah, but nobody knew any of this '9th cousin' stuff until it started appearing in the (I think mainly) British press. So chances are, it is hardly significant. Let's face it, a 9th cousin? Not exactly a close-knit family bond. I doubt Clinton, McCain and Obama are only fighting for the US presidency because they are 9th cousins with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Psh, of course it doesn't matter. I mean, Clinton is only related to Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Alanis Morsette, and Celine Dion because they're all French-Canadian or of French-Canadian descent. And all French-Canadians can probably be traced back to four or five single family from the 1660's. My dad studies geneology. I for example, and related to Mick Jagger, altough not as distantly as you'd expect. I'm also related to physicist Robert Boyle. And I has a long family history of performers and actors.

I'm related to the inventor of blackpool rock yeahhhhhh (h)
Legendary.

Besides, I think it's a thing in common with all politicians. David Cameron is 5th cousins with the Queen, for example. We're probably all related to someone significant if we comb our family treets hard enough. So I don't think who is cousins with whom is really significant to the US presidential race. Just, as someone pointed out, a sign of how obsessive some people have become with the candidate's private lives.

I read a study that all blue-eyed people originate from the same person who lived millions of years ago somewhere near the Black Sea. That would make me related to half of the world tbh.
