Perhaps I'm biased, but yeah, I'd sooner vote for the party/candidate that was going to raise taxes than lower them. |
Franny. Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5246 | Bloodraine: Raised taxes = you paying more. I don't know many people who want to pay more and then not know exactly where that extra bit of money is going into. Although I'm not in favor of increasing taxes, I don't believe it when any of the candidates say they'll reduce it drastically. It's unrealistic especially at a time of economic trouble. |
fancy pants Post Whore ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 22225 | I don't have a problem with raising taxes as long as the money is going to a good place. Like universal health care and education. Sweden has higher taxes and their schools and heath care are completely free. Their literacy rate is virtually 100%. I think that's something that everyone deserves. Good health and a good education. |
Matt Smith Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 31134 ![]() ![]() | Franny.: Well, did I say that you wouldn't know 'exactly where that extra bit of money is going into'? No. However, I do know a great many people who would want to pay more tax, and as a result, live in a society with better public services. It is impossible and idealistic in the extreme to have both lower taxes and an increase in spending for the improvement of public services. I would much rather live in a society with progressive taxation that provides free health services and free education than have more money in my own back pocket. |

fancy pants Post Whore ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 22225 | Who Stole My Pants?:I know, seriously!! I haven't had health insurance since I graduated high school! I wasn't able to be covered on my parent's health insurance plan anymore. My mom was uninsured for a while, too because her job wouldn't give it to her. We live in a country where it is completely possible to give people the health care they need. But it doesn't happen. And they won't sell any real medication over-the-counter. Only pain relievers and cough suppressants. Nothing that actually solves any problems. My sister had to pay $400 a month, out of pocket, to have health insurance for her daughter through her job. That's just ridiculous. Especially since she was a single parent. She couldn't even afford child care which is why I was stuck babysitting her for free for two years while my sister was at work. Which meant I had no income. And no opportunity to get a job that offered health insurance. >_< |

Addison Dewitt King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 30 Gender: - Posts: 3746 ![]() | ^ Yeah. ![]() On healthcare, does anybody know if Hillary planned on doing anything? Not that I would ever change who I support (because she's pretty much doomed) but I haven't heard much about it from her...>_> |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Bloodraine:I love how republicans (no offense meant to anyone, I'm being a stereotypical democrat tbh) like to bitch about how our health care is so awful and how over priced medication is... but as soon as someone mentions raising taxes to fix it, they immediately change their minds. It's ridiculous and that is why no valid health care reforms have been made in the US for the past 8 years. |
John Entwistle Great Success! ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 55036 | I don't bitch about how health care is and I'm not for raising taxes. Yeah, medication is expensive and most of my family takes some kind of medication, but raising taxes is the last thing I want to do. I think we have insurance that pays for some of the medication, but I'm not sure. But my family doesn't complain about health care. Although my family don't get sick that often either. |

Franny. Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5246 | Bloodraine: I don't mean to be picking on your ideals and where you stand, but the bolded parts makes more sense together. The majority of the States will not vote for a candidate who promises to raise taxes [that's why none of the candidates stand they way] and I apologize if you're offended by this because you're a small part of America who feels increased taxes is the way to go. It does make sense that the tax money goes into free health care and free education, but that's, to quote you, "impossible and idealistic". For a long period of time, the government will be funding the war and/or the remnants of the war and will also be paying off the national debt. The democrats are promising better health care initiatives but again, like you said, "It is impossible and idealistic in the extreme to have both lower taxes and an increase in spending for the improvement of public services" and that is exactly what both Clinton and Obama are proposing. As for McCain, I hate to sound cliche but he's just the third term for Bush. He won't be focusing on education [unless you think No Child Left Behind has worked well so far] nor will he make a viable health care plan. Boost the economy and End the war are the mottos for all the campaigns [the latter not for McCain] so it doesn't seem possible to me that if any increased taxes were to happen that it would go into health care or education. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | On healthcae, I hear Sicko is a good movie/documentary, however it is still loaded with already tiresome, somewhat un-needed Bush-bashing. I am also quite interested in what Micheal Moore probably will make in light of these elections. |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Anji:I think its quite needed in the case of health care. ![]() |
Ol' Blue Eyes. King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 4816 ![]() | Kurtni:I think health care needs to be explained very plainly to the youth of America. Most of the people I've encountered, unless they have had some sort of medical experiance, are woefully ignorant of health care and whatnot. I think it would greatly influence the youth vote if they could understand health care policies fully. |
