Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | I had this discussion with some friends today, and it kinda links back to the dog thread, but is it OK to discipline your pets through hitting? Or should it not happen at all. Does it even help? Do you consider it animal abuse? |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | i consider that animal abuse i think its wrong in humans and also illigal now over here and if its wrong in disciplining your children then its damn wrong in animals too.. there are otherways in which to do so. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | It's not wrong to discipline your children and I think same applies for pets. I have to hit my dogs when they are disobedient. They know what's wrong and what's right, I just need to enforce it in them, my two little ones who are youngish. |

And seeing as we only have basic speaking communication with animal they are more likely to respond to physical retribution. Obviously extreme violence is wrong and can only lead to the pet taking on aggresive qualities. |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | i think its compleatly wrong.. why use violence when you can train them to behave also words and tones are a lot more effective in the uk it is now illegal to hit children. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | Violence and discipline are completely different. I hate people who think it's so cool to but like uber liberal and use those two words as if they were the same thing. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | tyco:It's not violence. It's discipline. There's a big defference. And if you want to talk about child discipline, go to the right thread. |
NeoSteph Basket Case ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 16494 ![]() ![]() | tyco: well actually it's illegal to hit and leave a mark. However total pyshical punishment has not been ruled out, it's a stupid law which makes the government a nanny state. telling us how to raise our children. |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | NeoSteph: a pat on the nose is different from hitting.. also i dissagree i think tones are much more effective. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | NeoSteph:It's invading on the most intimate realation between child and parent. |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | Anji: it was linked. was it not? |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | tyco:I don't think a pat would work for my dogs. If I did that, I know Cocoa would just start licking my hand. Like when I pretend to kick her, and I stop my foot like an inch away from her, she just starts licking it. A little too daft to understand the concept. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | tyco:It was not. A child and a dog are completely different species. |
NeoSteph Basket Case ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 16494 ![]() ![]() | Anji: It's also put social services in quite a bit of trouble with increased reporting of violence at home when really it's just been a parent discplining a child for doing something wrong. http://www.geekstinkbreath.net/board/topic/22643/ there ye all go. |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | Anji: but i was saying if its wrong for a human then it has to be wrong for an animal too i linked them you dont have to agree but thats what i feel so it was therefor linked. |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | take your dogs to a dog training session.. cause what your doing IS wrong.. no one should hit anyone especially an animal. you will see that dog trainers never use violence Tones and rewards are a lot more effective |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | tyco:Well then, why do you feel that? Are you a vegetarian? |
tyco Jackass ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Male Posts: 1117 | not only is it cruel but also lazy and ineffective. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | tyco:OK, I don't use violence, I use discipline. It's the same as a tone, except dogs can recognise it better because it is hard for them to always be detecting the tone of the human voice. A physical strike will give them a much more effective idea of what is good and what is bad. Also, I see trainers use discipline all the time. Rewarding isn't very useful once your pet expects a reward every single time. |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | tyco:Hahaha, my dogs, on good behaviour, are really well trained. I've taught one of them how to even stand on her hind legs and say hello. When potty training, of teaching them what they can and can't chew, or do, or go, it is effective to hit them. They get the message loud and clear. |
