Rap Music

I was thinking, people normally think of rap and pop to degrade woman. Alot of rock does too, like if you read interviews with some rock stars they will be like "I banged 10 chicks last night" some of them are just sick. and same with talking about drugs and stuff, rock musicans get on drugs too.

I think rap just has a bad rep for it. I mean i'm not even a rap fan. I just think it has a bad rep for things rock does too.

I do like some rap music. And you know what? That song...Technology. Its pretty obvious its about porn, but in away, it kind of tackles the issue of porn addiction. Different styles of music handle things in different ways. Like, I'm sure that if in Green Day's early days, had Billie written something on porn addiction it would have been describing the woman or the act or whatever and kind of like "Is something wrong with me? I don't think there is. I don't care." or something...yeah, I can't predict lyrics but yeah.

And even Green Day's a little degrading *hides*. I was actually kind of like O_o when I first saw the Holiday video...cuz those scary women...

You know, I don't think women dancing in videos is automatically degrading. If someone wants to prance around in a video half naked, more power to them. It isn't my place to judge what they do with their life. I think it would be more degrading to try and stop them and not allow them to make their own choices. Now, if they're dancing to lyrics calling them bitches or something, that would be different. But really, I don't have a problem with the holiday girls.

You know, I think that the reason rap is labeled as degrading and violent is just because the artists are more upfront about what they're singing about. In the majority of the rock songs I've heard, and from what I've read, the meaning in most rock songs is hidden, or open to interpretation, so you can take the meaning whichever way you want. It's all in how you percieve it.

Either way i still like the music...
i dont really focus on why songs are made or what they are abiut..if i enjoy listening to it then...thats why

I just don't like the rhythm of a lot of rap. It isn't a style that I prefer. However, I do like a lot of rap songs. I think I like the ones that are different from the rest. A lot of mainstream songs are typically about the same thing (rap and rock alike) and I like the ones that break away. Rap included. That's why I like Green Day and Kanye West alike. They have certain songs that are just too original for me not to like. It's all music anyway. My ears do the judging, so I guess it's a little hard for me to explain.

I don't hate rap, but it is defiantley not my favourite genre.

I have nothing against the lyrics, as once you look at them more clearly, you can see the talent that is behind them.

I think, I just generally don't like the sound of it.

But I have nothing against people who like rap, as long as they don't have anything against the music I like.

Btw, fort minor isnt even that great a rapper to be truely honest. He wont ever be greatly respected as a rapper either. He's doesnt really have an original flow, or style. Yeah his lyrics are alot better than most rappers out now, i agree. However he is just as generic with his style as others are.

I agree with syco. Both rock and rap artists have a great deal of shared material, which includes sexist lyrics in some cases. As I've stated before, rock artists tend to dress up the sexism better than rappers do. Also, rap does have a reputation for mysogynistic overtones, so people notice that theme more when it comes to the genre.
