It's not fair though.

My parents, my aunts, uncles, and grandparents are LEGAL immigrants. They worked REALLY hard just to get citizenship.

It's not fair that illegal immigrants could just come over here.

Let them work hard to deserve their citizenhsip like the other legal immigrants.

i guess in a way i should be proud they picked the country i live in, but truthfully what's so great about it? they are leaving a country where their rights are being ignored and they come here illegally and have no rights. they work on a crappy salary and live in studio sized homes with a family. what's so great about staying and living like that?
They may have gotten into the country illegally, but they're making an honest living in a place where they have human rights, rights to seek asylum in other countries. They DO have rights, just not full citizenship.

In the US there is an "unofficial quota" of illegal Cuban immigrants we allow across the borders. The rest are sent back to Cuba before they reach the Florida Keyes because once they reach American waters they have protection from the American government because we are a part of the United Nations. The UN says that every human has the right to seek asylum in another country except in the case of their having committed a violent crime.
But what happens is these people are trying to reach America where they think they'll be safe and they'll have rights and be able to make a decent, honest living and the US Coast Guard sends them back to Cuba where they know they'll be executed for trying to leave. A few months ago, there were these older women in a metal boat and the Coast Guard basically capsized it so they couldn't get in because of the unofficial quota that makes them "illegal" immigrants.

certain cases like that i'm ok with, but when it gets to the point when we are overloaded with people coming in, it just gets ridiculous. i'm all up for people getting their rights, but why should people coming in illegally get their rights here before the ones doing it by the books and have been waiting years just to get approved?

i mean it takes a really long time, why should some people have o wait ages to get here legally while others come in and start overpopulating a certain area slowing down the process, you know?

My family came over from Italy and struggled to become citizens. They had to learn to speak english and were all on their own. It seems that now people are helping these immigrants too much which is only making it worse.

I agree, to allow them, or to MAKE them work hard, but don't kick them out!! Pray

Illegal Aliens are a large part of what's wrong with our country. They recieve free medical attention at emergency rooms, free education at public schools. They don't pay taxes, because they have no social security. It infuriates me, because their presence is screwing up our economic system.
I have no problem with immigration. I think people should come here legally and work for citizenship.

...I just wanna say now that I have actually bothered to read the posts in this forum, I find the title less amusing.

Anyway, Britain is realyl bad with the whole immigration system. They found 5 immigrants actually working in the Home Office, which is brilliant.

Legal immigrants are good because no country is an island...well...you know what I mean, dammit. People emigrate and people immigrate from and to my country of Scotland. I mean, if they've worked their backsides off to get here then they should be allowed to stay.

Illegal immigrants...well...I'm pretty ambivalent. I can understand why another country is inviting, especially if there are stories of jobs and freedoms beyond what they can see. Whatever. I really think it is a poor excuse of human rights to dump them in those asylum things that look like prisons. I understand that people (especially the idiots who read The Daily Express or Daily Mail) could get upset by all this 'they are coming here, taking our jobs' yadda yadda yadda. There is something really sad in that statement as the only jobs I have seen new immigrants work in is fast-food places, shops and cleaning up crap. Of course there are doctors and stuff as well but the majority are going into jobs that only spotty teenagers in need of money are going for.

Also I don't really understand the whole 'immigrants sponge off of benefits'. I, myself, receive benefits as I am still at school and all by myself, it's bloody hard to actually get income support or whatever. I, a speaker of the English language, get confused and have to get the form sent back for me to refill about twenty times. You also need a...that number thing like...OP 12 34 56 A or whatever (made-up, by the way). How on Earth immigrants are supposed to fill these in is beyond me.

I don't tend to like to see people from third world counries, leave their countries to work in better countries, because then no one is ever left to do the jobs which require speacialised labour fources, mainly doctors. It really bothers me, I totally understand it, but it really still does bother me.

I agree.

I don't use this term a lot, but it is definitely unfair. People work their asses off in their home country then use that money to immigrate legally to a 'better' country. If these illegal immigrants get the same benefits, what was all that hard work for? I'm not saying those who tried to cross over deserved to die, but it's a risk they were obviously willing to take. There's nothing the country can do except make laws against illegally crossing over...but of course, they're not citizens therefore the laws would not apply to them.

It's an empty arguement. It's illegal, but the law only applies to citizens, and since they're not citizens, the law would not apply. The only thing that can be done is in the hands of the Mexican government.

In the grand scheme of things, we are all alien.

But your argument doesn't make sense. At all.

Why are we, the people who have lived in the country all our lives, the aliens yet those who have just come here aren't?

Maybe some of you have heard what has happened with Morrissey and NME and them calling him a racists because he is against immigrants. Actually I read one good comment on the whole thing and thats that everyone thinks like Morrissey, he was the only one to actually say it out. Its the truth. Even here in Croatia which cant compare its amount of immigrants to lets say Britain or USA, we hate immigrants, legal or no. There was this whole wave of Chinese people coming to Zagreb, to a neighbourhood next to mine and no one could stand it. I personally had no problem with it, more cheaps stores and restaurants, but no one liked it. The Romanies have been living in Croatia and near areas for many years, they are our countries ethnic group, actually just a few days ago the first Romani will maybe enter the parliament, but we still think of them as lower than us, we only see thieves and beggars in them. Actually Croats think bad of anyone else living in their country who isn't a Croat. I dislike it a lot.

I personally have never had anything against immigrants, maybe because one day I will be one as well. I don't plan to stay in Croatia because I just don't like them way we are treating some things and because I want to see the world, not just on a two-week holiday.

I don't.

I manage to look past the stereotypes. Basic psychology.

Well, the techinical term is cognitive misers. Basically, the general (therefore need not apply to everyone) rule of thumb is that we - as humans - are unable or wnwilling to process large amounts of information so we take shortcuts. This has the effect of making our social world more predictable, as we can make assumptions about how other people behave. These stereotypes are often negative and unflattering and may underlie prejudice and discrimination and so we have negative consequences for the targets of our stereotyping.

So...blah. Morrisey hasn't a clue what he's on about and he's gonna sue NME for defamination.

When in doubt, sue their ass!

You alone aren't most people. And the fact is that most people dislike immigrants, illegal or no. Mr. Green
