I wathched the news last night, and there was a report about global warming saying that the effects of global warming is 'worse' than we thought. i.e the ice caps are melting faster than expected and the seas will rise a few 7 meters more than what people firdt expected.
Some global warming specialist said that Global warming is a bigger threat than terrorism???
I personaly think think that is a load of bollocks... how about you?

Why would they lie though?

I wasn't saying it was a lie, I just think that was his opinion and he was exagurating a bit.

Perhaps, if they were exaggerating could you blame then? They are doing it so we will think about all the damage we are doing to the world. Some people need to be scared before they will actually get up and do something about global warming.

Good point,
but I think people have realised now that sometimes the media over exadurates things a little, hey bad news is a lot better than good news when it comes to ratings.
So I think now the people watching just take whatever the media say with a pinch of salt.... I certainly do.

2 billion people.
A third of the world's population.

Someone said the temperature is set to rise by 1*C a year? To see what happens in a hundred years? Why in a hundred years? WHY NOT FIVE? OR EVEN TEN???????

We can't -AND WE WON'T- be able to deal with this -and nobody cares!

Of course people care, just not enough. Most people just sit back and let the people in power at it, its human nature. What scares me is that by the time people do cop on to the seriousness of the situation, it might be too late too do anything about it.
But if everyone pitches in and cuts down on unnessary energy use, well it wont stop the effects of global warming but it will slow it down.

It's too late! At the rate we're going we can't stop! How far do you think all these selfish people would go to help out global warming? BELIEVE ME when I say there are more of them than there are of us..!

Earth, is at a point where it is TOO LATE to do ANYTHING. Which is just as well because the people who matter most are NOT doing ANYTHING!

And yes -people care... like you said -just not enough! How can everyone pitch in if a majority of them just.don't.care..?

It's too late to undo the damage, but not too late to do anything.
Even the people that don't give a shite are being forced to cut down pn energy use with the new EU quotas (though the quotas only effect members of the European union. I'm not sure if the UN have decided to bring in the quotas).

My view on this is plain and simple. It can be a bad thing for the earth and everything. But, no one really seems to care of what happens! I think that more awareness should be brought up for young people. They are the ones most likely to be driving aorund in their gas hogs.

its serious, and no one cares but us. the kids who will be running the world when it gets real bad.

Why the FUCK are world leaders spending money on useless things when they could be pulling together to pump ozone gas into the hole. It IS possible. It IS expensive. But it is vital, if people don't do something then a sixth of the human population will die, especially in hot countries and low-lying countries. Like Belgium, Holland, Spain, South of France, Africa, etc.

Nothing will be able to grow. That's probably the thing that's going to wipe us out.

I don't know. Somehow I don't think that they count suicides.

Bullshit. Maybe in some places it will be hard for things to grow, but not everywhere.
Global warming is a rather miss leading name, only in some parts will the temperture rise. The ice caps are melting as I'm sure you know, that means that the water in the Atlantic ocean is increasing, which means that the north Atlantic drift that keeps the west of Europe from freezeing during the winter will be pushed towards the south. Which means colder winters and wetter summers for western Europe, but of course rain helps things grow.

We've talked about that yesterday with one of my teachers..
I think USA signed Kyoto's agreement so they have to limit the gas emissions..
It's a good and helpful thing that a country like USA did that.
Small-scale now, I mean, concerning eachothers: we should use more biodegradable products, stop throwing down stuff in the street etc..
That helps in the processus of fixing (more or less) the environment.
Of course, everybody thinks "I won't change the world if I do it".
You won't. Alone, you won't.
But if everybody said "I won't change anything but at least, I can try" and did it: you + another person + another person + another person + etc..
That's a lot at the end..
And I think that helps slowing down the damage..

Do you really think there are enough people to even.. everytime global warming is even mentioned it seems to me that the only thing everyone wants to comment on is how often they hear about global warming and how much they're sick of hearing it.

I don't know.

You're just determined to be pessimistic aren't you.
Even if people are sick of hearing about it thanks to new steps from the goverment (over here anyway) people are being forced to recycle and cut down on energy use whether they want to not. While it would be great for everybody to switch to renewable energy and use cleaner fuels in their cars we can't expect that to happen. But every little helps. Personally I think the goverment should bann all aerosols (since they are the most harmful) and then over the next few years get people switching to hydro or solar power and using the new environmentally friendly car fuel (can't remember the name but its made out of green plants).

I'm not trying to be pessimistic; I'm trying to be realistic.

I just don't think it's enough! Look, we need to do more than cut down on energy and everything else. We need STOP greenhouse gas emissions and REVERSE them.

And read the other links they give you!

I do NOT see it happening.
