I think bread and wine are.... bread and wine.
And Catholics think...well, its kind of, the most important part of their faith, really.
The most important part is the resurrection of Jesus. And wine and bread come in second I suppose since they are a big part of it. sorry, religion class nerd.

I have a slightly off-topic comment to be inserted here:
Jesus said "Take this bread and eat it for it is my body." He did not say "Eat me."
Catholisism does have some outrageous beliefs sometimes, like bread being the flesh of Christ and wine being the blood of Christ, whereas Protastants think that bread represents the flesh of Christ and wine represents the blood of Christ.
Maybe. But which religion doesn't have outrageous beliefs, really?
Kurtnitology doesn't.

Outrageous beliefs require leaps of faith.
Therefore we don't believe that they are outrageous beliefs, unless we're skeptical. I think it's fine to question.
But faith, ultimately, is what makes those beliefs "normal" to us.
