I hope I'm not, like, offending anyone by talking about this subject, but we're studying the Holocaust and school, and my teacher was talking about who was responsible for the Holocaust. There was 10 choices, I think. It got me thinking, and I was wondering, what order would you put the 10 choices in, from least responsible to most responsible, and why? The choices were:
1. Residents of towns near concentration camps who knew about them but did nothing to stop them
2. Minor Nazi Soldiers
3. Hitler
4. People who voted for Hitler and the Nazi Party to revitalize their morally and economically depressed country
5. The Jews who did not try to escape
6. Top SS officers who designed and executed the 'Final Solution' for Hitler
7. Non-Jewish Europeans who turned against their Jewish friends and citizens, fearing they'd be imprisioned as Jewish sympathizers
8.Leaders of the Allied countries who had evidence of the Holocaust but refused to get involved or voice opposition
9. Churches of all denominations who remained silent and refused to intevene
aaaannnnddd
10. The Jewish God
So, what do you think?
More than just jews died in the holocaust... the west tends to overlook this. The Nazis were out to end communism. Hey... whaddya know... so is the west. Maybe they've got something to hide?
Anyway, I digress. I think number 9 is a completely innaccurate statement, but I do blame the church. The churches did MUCH more than remain silent. There were many bishops and such in Germany that spoke out against the nazis, but the nazis couldn't remove them because of PR. The Catholic Church itself helped Nazi officials escape to South America after the war was over. The Catholic Church has encouraged anti-semitic and anti-communist attitudes that lead to the slaughter of jews, communists, socialists, anarchists, and others.
Well ten you have been taught a completely different event of history than me and seeing as I do history at the highest grade I have to disagree
The Catholic church helped save the lives of thousands of jewish children by hiding them with christian families, they also helped freedom fighters escape, not Nazi Officials.
and the church was silenced in fact Nazi regulations was one step away from banning religion like russia did so that the focus of peoples beliefs would be the state
and it's a good thing that church is against communism.

Because you're taught it from a different view? Chances are, an incredibely selective pro-authority ignorant view if you're being taught at a school and not by yourself.

Two-face. The Church was after the left-wing, not the jews. Just like the Nazis. The slaughter of the jews was used by the nazis to make people think "Oh those poor jews..." while all the communists, socialists, and anarchists that had been killed went forgotten. It seems to've worked. In this way, people would support all western governments' fight against the left-wing, never realizing that the nazis they say they hate so much did the same exact thing.
Don't get me wrong, I think the slaughter of the jews was HORRIBLE (especially with me and the girl I love being ethnically jewish). Its just, others died. They were the real targets. The killing of the jews was a way for the NSDAP to gain support and, as explained, cover-up the dead lefties.
And yes, they DID help Nazis escape to South America. I saw it in a documentary about the Odessa project. They hid in many bishops' houses and even in Vatican City.

One of the 14 defining characteristics of fascism (http://www.rense.com/general37/fascism.htm) states that a fascist government NEEDS religion to stay in power. They use popular religious rhetoric and symbols to garner support, even though their views are, 99% of the time, directly opposed to the religion's. (i.e. America's republican party) Yes, they wanted to focus to be pon the state, because, as the characteristic is defined, church and state are intertwined.
But there were still a few sensible bishops... some died. I know specifically of one in Bavaria that couldn't be silenced because of his popularity, that my German teacher told about.

Why?
Especially considering the first christians were communists.

Who told you that?
I don't think communism even existed when Jesus was around, did it?. They were the people I regard as the first christians.
communism was formed after marxism, which was way way way way way after the birth of christianity. I didn't even think of that until after meg caught it out.

The ignorance...
communism-
Any theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members
Where does that mention marxism??
In fact... hey... it sounds like what our paleolithic and mesolithic ancestors did before agriculture was in widespread use!!
That was... what? Up to 750,000 years ago?
Marxism is a FORM of communism. Communism is not a word that means only marxism. It could also mean leninism. It could mean any communal based society. Like the early christians'.
**Oh, when I say early christians, I mean pre-Catholic church, pre-Constantine, and such.

No, it appears you can't grasp facts because you're to stubborn to listen to others views, if thats the case you shouldnt even be here, this is a debate forum.
idiot germans that chose to ignore the camps and the fact that their leader was insane
and you would've done what? Stopped him? Killed him? the answer to that is no, because he promised the german race everything and for the most part he wasnt insane.

Actually, he was. He had syphilis (excuse me for butchering the spelling) and at the time in Germany, medical care was very poor and it did mess with not only the way his brain functioned, but his physical wellness as well.
